Mr. Allison at the residence of the bride’s parents near Carsonville, in this county on Wednesday the 12th inst. at 12 p.m., Dr. W.A. Blasingame to Miss Hattie Lou Gray. Only a few of the intimate friends and relatives of the bride and groom were present. After the marriage a favored few were invited into the spacious dining hall, and there before them was spread one of the most sumptuous feasts ever seen in this sunny Southland, which was heartily enjoyed. The groom is the eldest son of Hon. Powell Blasinghame, of Crawford County, who is one of the leading citizens of his section and one of the first families of the State. He is located in Fort Valley and though quite a young gentleman, enjoys a very lucrative practice with a bright and prosperous future. The bride is the second daughter of Mr. James H. Gray, of Carsonville, one of the largest and most successful farmers of this section. At three p.m. the happy couple accompanied by a few special friends left for the home of the groom’s parents, where a pleasant reception awaited them. May you walk hand in hand through the rugged journey of life, learning to love each other more and more, and may your pathway be strewn with fragrant flowers and kindred blessings, and when your heads become silvered with the weight of years, may be you be able to look back upon October 12th, 1892, with love and tenderness without a sigh to have the bosom or a thought of regret for the step taken and the union formed on that day. May your life be one of peace, plenty and prosperity and may you so live that when you are called to cross the dark turbed waters of the river of death, you may be reunited in that land where eternal day excludes the night and pleasures banish pain. Valley Leader Rev. J.M. Bass and O.W. Stapleton will be here Sunday to assist in the revival meeting at the Methodist church. The great Dublin meeting, which lasted 4 weeks’ closes tonight and the Evangelist begins here Sunday with the morning services. Fort Valley will entertain Group Five of the Georgia Bankers Association next year, Mr. C.E. Martin, cashier of the Citizens Bank of Fort Valley having procured the meeting at one held in Macon on the 21st inst. The Daughters of the Confederacy are arranging their annual dinner for the veterans on next Monday April 26th at noon, in the Miller building. Everybody can can, and a lot of people will can this year, for there is going to be a good crop of peaches and canned peaches are good. Corpulent and jocund as ever, Fort Valley’s summertime citizen, and Baltimore’s regular resident, Mr. Winn W. Roberts – he of canning fame, spent several days in the city this week. Mr. Roberts is the pioneer in the canning of peaches in this section of the state, and his stay of several months each year in our midst has been of benefit to the community and profit to himself. Approaching his fine business sense, we wonder why he chooses Baltimore as his permanent residence in preference to Fort Valley though he is at all times given a most cordial welcome by our people. It is very probable that Fort Valley will shortly have free mail delivery. Postal receipts show a continuing increase and the outlook is that the income of the post office will soon meet the requirements of the postal service in this particular. The several houses in course of erection in this city keeps the hammers of the carpenters still ringing and the hand saws a singing. In fact our people recognize the fact now is the time to build. The Butler Herald Tuesday, May 4, 1915 Page Seven Clipped From Our Contemporaries Home-Journal, Perry The Dixie Highway is coming thru Houston County either by way of Perry or Fort Valley. Fort Valley is making an organized effort to have it come their way. Perry seems to be indifferent. Rev. and Mrs. Z.T. Weaver will arrive in Perry Wednesday night to take up their residence at the Baptist pastorium. The ladies of the church will welcome them to their new home. The merchants of a thriving town fail in their duty to their business when they fail to exercise their influence to establish a telephone connection with the surrounding farms. There is profitable room for a meat packing plant in each congressional district in Georgia, provided the farmers and merchants will cooperate with the management of the plants. The Butler Herald Tuesday, May 4, 1915 Page Seven Clipped From Our Contemporaries Leader-Tribune, Fort Valley Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Souder and little daughter, Gladys Estelle, of Macon, are visiting relatives here this week. The residence occupied by Mr. John Q. Adams on the farm of Mr. W.A. Melvin was completely destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning. Miss Gertrude Williams, of Gainesville, the guest of Miss Gena Riley, was the honoree at a beautiful party last Saturday morning at the home of Mrs. E.G. Thomas. Hon. Hiram Warner Hill, one of the presiding justices of the Supreme Court of Georgia, was a distinguished visitor here yesterday as the guest of his daughter, Mrs. C.E. Martin. The Leader-Tribune regret to chronicle the death of Mrs. W.A. Watson, which occurred at her home Saturday. She was 82 years of age and had been a resident here and near here all of her life. She was a member of the Baptist Church and a good Christian woman. Great interest is being manifested in the revival now being held at the Methodist church which is being conducted by Rev. J.M. Bass, conference evangelist of the South Georgia Conference. Mr. Bass is a preacher of force and power and has been very successful in many meetings. He is ably assisted in the services by Mr. Stapleton, who has charge of the music, and a man of many talents in this particular. In all probability the services will be continued throughout the coming week. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 4.7 Kb

    1. Andersonville POW Camp- Special Offer from Kevin
    2. Gaila & James Merrington
    3. Hello Everyone I am very excited to say that Kevin Frye, who is a specialist on the Andersonville POW Camp which is very close to Houston County, will be willing to answer questions about 4600 Confederate Guards at Andersonville as well as the many POW's. If anyone has a look up for Kevin, about Andersonville or about POW's or Guards and Camp Military Personnel, please feel free to ask Kevin for a look-up. What we won't be doing is reliving the Civil War or making comparisons to Elmira or Northern prisons. Prison Camp are by definition horrible places and sadly still in existence today. I know many of us are still Rebels at heart, but I want to make sure we have a warm Southern welcome for Kevin and show our Southern Hospitality and gracious Southern manners. Kevin says " I enjoy talking about Andersonville and love to find information for researchers who had ancestors here. I have a copy of the park database which has 42261 records on Union prisoners..... AS WELL as more than 4600 Confederate guards who were here. This I would think be of interest as most guards were from your area and 40 mile perimiter of the historic site." This is a wonderful offer, because I know I have questions to ask about Houston County men stationed at Andersonville. Kevin, please join us and give us some general information on Andersonville. Once we have heard from Kevin, we can ask for lookups or general questions. Please have your subject line include Andersonville. Kevin, please feel free to tell us the best way to request lookups, the information you require, etc. Best regards, Gaila Merrington

    3. Crawford County family who migrated to Texas and were overcome by Cholera... a cousin sent me the answer to my Queston: The Moore Family all but perished when the slaves picked up some clothes infected with Cholera. "...but I think the family you referred to was the family of George Moore, Sr. of Robley, near Roberta in Crawford Co. This group, with fifteen whites and seventy two slaves, left Knoxville for Anderson, Grimes Co., Texas on Monday Jan. 23, 1854. The trip went well until they reached Galveston, Texas, where they encountered an outbreak of Asian Cholera. From there the story is one of incredible horror. Nine members of the Moore family and four members of the related Crute family died in ten days. Thirty two of the slaves also died. If this is the story that you remember, it is in the back of a book by Emmie Carnes Bankston of Roberta, HISTORY OF ROBERTA AND CRAWFORD COUNTY. The book was not widely distributed and I expect a copy might be hard to find. '[I found it at the Washington Memorial Library or the Crawford County Library]. Thanks for answering me Dennis, Gaila
