    3. Hello Billy kindly scanned in and sent the brochure for the Heritage book project. go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~gahousto/heritage.htm Read Addie's words about the content and on the bottom of this page are 4 hyperlinks to the four pages of the brochure. Have a look at the photos sent in and the sample story. Page 1- Tells about the commitee and Heritage books Page 2- Sample Stories Page 3- The How-to page + Order Form Page 4- Sample Photo page I think between now and October we could all share information about family stories and Addie and Billy can help us with ideas and answer questions. We can have one of the best Heritage books ever to be published, because there are so many of us are interested in our family stories. Good luck, and thanks Billy for sharing the brochure. Gaila

    3. Sandra, I'm not sure. The private publication I was referring to, was compiled by Joanne Lusk during the early 1990s. 3. Sandra, there is a set of books in the Washington Library in Macon with all of the Georgia men who served during the Civil War listed. And there is another set with all of the Confederate Soldiers listed. And another one with all of the Union Soldiers listed. If you can't find Isaiah in Houston Co. records you might try the library. If you have time while you are here give me a call. 3. Sandra, You may want to print out a hard copy of the 3 LDS Microfilm Resources link pages from the Houston-L webpage. Then, check off everything that you have already reviewed. Especially check the indexes of the Inferior Court Minutes, Appraisals & Sales, Annual Returns, Proceedings in Equity, Estray Docket, etc. >> someone said there was some info about the 11th Houston volunteers] at the Perry Library << I'm not aware of it. There is Henderson's 7-volume set of rosters (Infantry only), and a privately printed listing of local soldiers who served from Houston County during the Civil War. Also, the UDC volumes from recent years. >> Also what books haven`t been filmed?? << There are many. You need to look at the beginning and ending of each record book to see if it has the microfilm ink-stamp on it, usually from the early 1960s. Happy hunting! ==============>>> On Wed, 9 Aug 2000 21:13:39 -0700 "Sandra and Wayne Riner" <[email protected]> writes: OK I`ve checked out the tax records, agriculture, marriage and land records at the courthouse what else should I check and I`m still trying to find Isiaih Johnosn in the CW where should I check for records, someone said there was some info about the 11th [Houston volunteers] at the Perry Library has anyone seen it?? Hope everyone is getting excited, come and get out of that heat. Tell us about your families. Gaila

Houston County Researchers: For those of you who have *attempted* to view pages 2 & 3 of the online brochure regarding the Heritage of Houston County, Georgia Book Publication Project, you may have run into some problems *trying* to load those two pages. I am going to have the brochure rescanned in a format with less resolution, to see if it will load easier for you. I apologize for this inconvenience. 3. Sandra, I doubt that the Perry LDS FHC has any microfilms of the Houston Co., GA records. If I were you, I'd spend my time at the courthouse, or perhaps even the historical room at the Perry Library. The Perry LDS Family History Center won't be much different than the one which is located near your home. You may want to spend your time reviewing the original Land Lot records in the old Law Library, next to the old deeds. Also, review any record that hasn't been microfilmed. There are several books that fit this category. And, while at the Perry Library, review the Soil Survey book of Houston County, GA, and photocopy the pages which are pertinent to your ancestor's land. This book is available for checkout, and also in the historical room. Then, you may want to go down to the Tax Assessor's Office and buy a huge map of all of the land lots of Houston County. It will cost about $5. There are several old scrap books which have lots of old photos of the Houston County area, at the Perry Library, in the historical room. If you plan your time efficiently, you should be able to review every old book in the courthouse, and skim the contents of the Perry Library historical room, in about 8 hours. 3. Be sure to check the Houston Heritage site and go check the pictures. In the Alma "Granny" Leverett photo site there are lots of unidentified photos, many from the Ziegler Apartments. If you cam identify any of them and they are your family let me know and I will send you the picture. None of these are identified and all I can identify are the ones in the family that I know. The Leverett/Hammock family intermarried into most of the older Houston County families and of course the Ziegler families were close. Helen S. Hudson

    3. Hello Has everyone visited Billy's site lately and seen the brochure of Houston County Heritage book? We all have information to add to this project. And the deadline will sneak up on us - the Olympics will be here in Sydney soon, so I know I have to start now. Visit Billy's web page and follow the links to see the brochure on the Heritage Book online. Have a look at the other photos, while you are there. Start getting the gears in motion to submit photos and 500 words about each family, prior to the November dealine. I think I will be submitting one in my Mother's and Sister's name too. 1. [GAHOUSTO] Family History Library Catalog on CD.
    2. William A. Mills
    3. Houston County Researchers: BIG NEWS! The LDS Family History Library Catalog (FHLC) on CD-ROM is NOW available for the general public to purchase for $5. This contains info on over 2.5 million microfilms / microfiche & 300,000 books. For the past 8 years, I have purchased hundreds of sheets of microfiche from the LDS, so that I could perform much of my initial research at home. The Family History Library Catalog is comprised of the following: 1. SURNAME CATALOG: A listing of many of the publications that each particular surname is located in. Even if the surname isn't mentioned in the title of the publication, it is listed if there is a significant amount of that surname listed in the index. I found over 250 publications listed on one of my family lines, and 2 books that my parents are listed in, that I wasn't even aware of. 2. LOCALITY CATALOG: A listing of court records, vital records, etc. for each particular locality, usually by county. This will let you know what has been microfilmed already. 3. AUTHOR, TITLE, SUBJECT CATALOG: A listing by several categories, so that you can locate a microfilm, book, etc. The FHLC data is also available via the LDS website at: http://www.familysearch.org but, for those of you who have ever tried to access the info, know that it can be very cumbersome, at best. Now, with this CD, you will have literally tons of pertinent data at your fingertips. This CD does not have the *actual* court records and family history publications on it; only the descriptions & microfilm / microfiche numbers of them. If you would like to take a look at the description of this CD, here is the URL: http://www.ldscatalog.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1632783&prmenbr=1402&CGRY_NUM=1440462&RowStart=1&LocCode=FH I'm not affiliated with the LDS. However, I do realize that they have the most extensive collection of genealogical data in the entire world. And, I am always ready to take advantage of every resource that they make available for me. Actually, I wear it out. Take care, & happy hunting! William A. 1. [GAHOUSTO] Heritage of Houston County Project brochure NOW On-line.
    2. William A. Mills
    3. Houston County Researchers: The Heritage of Houston County Book Publication Project is in a continuous state of motion now. A few days ago, we received 10,000 4-page brochures which describe this project in detail. Addie Howell has been running her feet off, trying to distribute them all over creation in Houston, Peach & surrounding counties. She may need some new shoes when she gets finished :-) Actually, Addie is over near Montgomery, AL this weekend, enjoying a family reunion. In the next few days, we will be snail mailing the brochures to those who requested them. If you haven't requested a copy of one yet, you may do so by emailing your snail mail address to: [email protected] Also, you can see a copy of the 4-page brochure *NOW* On-line, and linked to our website at: http://homestead.juno.com/houston-heritage Helen Hudson did a great job with scanning the brochure. Helen has also posted over a dozen old photos that she obtained from "Granny" Alma Leverette. Helen is in the process of posting captions to the photos that she can identify. In the next few days, we will update the current *generic* captions under the photos. For now, please bear with us :-) Take care, and happy hunting! William A.
