Daniel, and will post it to see if anyone can make any connections - I still have not been able to determine where he came from. In 1964-65, Dorothy Lipham Barrett (grandaughter of Julia Daniel Lipham) compiled some notes on the family from interviews with older members still living, from cemetary markers, and from the daybook of Rebecca Criswell Daniel Hammond. A cousin sent me copies of DLB's notes. Two of the older relatives said that Alexander P. Daniel was an orphan (along with one or two of his brothers, one named Peter) and they were raised by their maternal grandmother who was a Matthews. They said the boys came from either Ireland or England. One source (Garland Daniel, grandson of John A. Daniel) said there were three brothers. "They crossed the Chattahoochee River at Hollingsworth Ferry. They camped one year on Hill Rock Hill above Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Hollingsworth Ferry is in Heard County. Alexander settled north of Olive Branch and owned land on what was later known as Miss Mayhayley Lancaster's place." "One brother settled between Franklin, Georgia and LaGrange, Georgia. He was the forefather of Dr. John, Dr. Jim; George, Jim Humphrey (two different Daniel families). The father of Dr. John and that family was Buddy Jep; the father of George and that family was Isham." "The third brother went up the Chattahoochee River and settled in Douglas County. He belonged to the Primitive Baptist Church in Douglas County, Georgia." (Garland Daniel did not know the names of the brothers.) Alexander's middle name was Pleasant. He was born 14 Sept 1814 and died 24 Sept 1887. He and Amanda McComb were married 3 Dec 1840. Amanda C. McComb was born 23 June 1819, and died 8 July, 1893. She was the daughter of Andrew McComb and Zylphia Glenn. (Zylphia is found spelled various ways.) It is stated in the notes from DLB that Amanda's middle name was Catherine. Andrew McComb was born 9 April 1777, and died 16 March 1858. His wife Zilphia was born <1784> and died 15 June 1859. According to the notes made by DLB, "Andrew McComb's mother was a Criswell; and Zylphia's maiden name was Watkins. She had been married twice before - once to a Williams and once to a Glenn." (Their marriage was recorded in Richmond County, GA as Andrew McComb to Zilpha Glenn on 28 Nov. 1813.) I have no other documentation for any of the details in the statements about Alexander and where he came from - but maybe someone knows of a Daniel - Matthews connection? Andrew and Zilpha/Zilphey/Zilphia had five children: Thomas, John, Seaborn, Amanda, and Zilphia. Amanda C. McComb married Alexander P. Daniel and they had twelve children: John, Mary, William, Missouri, Rufus, Zilphia, Julia, Sarah, Rebecca, Joseph, Lucy, and Martha. I have further info on most of these children, if anyone wants/needs it. Andrew and Zilpha McComb, Alexander and Amanda Daniel, and several of their children and other descendants are buried at Salem UMC Cemetary in Heard County.
