October 16, 1918 >From my Thompson family history notes: Ollie & Jeff Daniel were married in 1898, Heard County, GA. They were living in Carroll County, GA when Jeff became weary of farming small plots on rocky, hilly land in north Georgia. On a trip south with friends, he found an enormous amount of flat land just as he had always wanted, a farm so wide and long he could not see from one end of a row to another. Jeff traded for just such place, and proceeded to move his family to Webster County. This dream farm was known as the "Bob Harrell Place". In December 1922, Jeff and four sons Joe, Jepp, Charlie and Homer, loaded an assortment of farm tools and other belongings into a covered wagon pulled by two mules. Two horse and buggies were also used to carry passengers and personal belongings. Setting out to Webster County, their journey required six days on the road, camping out most nights, spending some nights in homes along the way. Other members of the family came later by car. In 1922 very few roads of this section ! were considered as improved. When the Daniel family arrived in Webster County, thinking his farm had been rent would be ready to occupy, he found the previous tenants had not moved and had no intentions of doing so. The Daniel family would not have possession until January. Fortunately, Ollie Daniel's youngest sister & brother-in-law lived nearby with their four year old son. The entire Daniel family moved in with them, sleeping on the floor, eating in shifts, until their place was available to move in. *Note: These wonderful family histories was shared with me by some of my Thompson family, who are also related to the Hammonds and others in Heard County......just simply no other way to put it than to say that they are undoubtedly some of the sweetest people on the face of the earth. Ollie Bell Thompson was the daughter of Joseph Lewis Thompson and he was the son of Abraham Thompson. My grandmother was the youngest child of Abraham Thompson.
