Jane ... Sorry, that was the Dicie Wood (Sappington) who was the sister of Bird Wood. Bird also had a daughter named Dicie/Dicey b. 1896. I don't have a marriage for her. Maybe that's the one who's connected to Candace's. There were a lot of Dicie/Diceys in that family because of Dicey Gay who married Winston Wood. Winston and Dicey also had a daughter named Dicey, b. 1843, d. 1855. I know Candace connects to the Gays, so her Dicey is probably in there somewhere. Winston Wood and Dicey Gay's son, William Thomas Wood, m. Nancy Ann Blake, daughter of Thomas Blake and Delaney Young of Randolph Co., AL(my GG grandparents). William Thomas Wood and Nancy Blake Wood were the parents of Robert Bird (or Bird Robert) Wood who married Alice Smith ... which gets us back to the original topic. Judy.
Thank goodness ! I know we all have a tendency to jump on a name after we see them so much in our research but I somehow knew that Candace had a Dicey so I wrote to her, asking her where in the dickens the little lady was hiding. Haven't heard back from her but am sure it must have been in her Gay family lines, too. Boy, these family lines sure do get to be convoluted and wrapped around so many times that I sometimes wonder what my own name is. Sure am glad my Mom gave me something as simple as Jane to go by ! But, I bet she didn't know that there were a thousand Jane Ashleys out there since 1800, either. Kinda like that old poem that states I am my own grandma !
