It seems likely that the census taker just made an error when he heard the name Willie and assumed it was a male and wrote William??? We can only make our best guesses at this point with some of the discrepancies in the various census's as to name and age of the people and place of birth, etc. which seems to vary from census to census. I have wondered also if the census takers might have left people's names out of the list of who was in the household at times or gotten some of the names wrong, etc. My g grandmother Sarah "Sallie" is shown as a Susan in one of the census's and no explanation as to why she was shown that way.
