Lot of empty blanks !! Don't you wish that everyone who was listed as "informant" on death certificates had to be the family genealogist and knew who was who ??!!?!? Never really had thought about it that much until my own family started calling me to check on names regarding writing the obits for deaths in the family but it sure does help to have all those itty-bitty details filled in, yes ? Now, for me to get very busy and prove that this J.R. Thompson was indeed my own James Robert "Jim" Thompson and this was a second marriage for him after he returned to Heard County from TX. I'm more than reasonably sure it was because one of his grandsons went by the name of "J.R." on the census reports. Sure do appreciate your scanning the death certificate and sending it via email attachment.

They show to have a child Mary (male) age 22 which I strongly believe is my GGGrandfather Marion Wilford Pace, but have yet to find a connection to this family. Anyone with info on this family I would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance, Roger M. Pace Shamrock, Texas irishfan@pan-tex.net

    1. [GAHEARD] Re: Hodnett / Prestridge / Arrington
    2. Suzy -- (Jane -- I am including you as this may be another Hammond! Yikes!) Finally I write back. Two kids, dog, hubby, work, Christmas. I respond in blocks when I have the time. It may be a few weeks, but I do write back! > Well, I think it must be my Mark PRESTRIDGE! His father was William > PRESTRIDGE, my 2g-grandfather! William was m to Louisa HAMMOND (I believe she was > married to man named SMITH before her marriage to Wm).....Wm & Louisa > PRESTRIDGE were on the 1850 Randolph Co, GA census, along with children, John > PRESTRIDGE, Mark PRESTRIDGE and Louisa SMITH............. Fascinating to see that Louisa's maiden name may be Hammond, as my husband is also a direct descendant of John & Tabitha (Hammond) Miller, early settlers of Heard Co. John won land in the 1827 lottery in Carroll and then he jumped over to Heard. He sold the land in Carroll to satisfy a suit; it became part of Heard and is Lot 12 where Salem church now is (source: Lynda Eller). Do you have the Louisa Hammond - ?? Smith marriage record? I saw the same on a couple of trees on RootsWeb but no one has actual source. I would suspect it took place in Oglethorpe Co., GA. Jane Benson, who I have cc'd on this has a Boswell Hammond & Nancy Miller who were married on 18 Nov 1831 in Oglethorpe Co., GA that we suspect to be siblings to John & Tabitha. > > I am curious abt your husband's 2g-grandmother, Mary Catherine.......I have > no record of her........I would certainly want to add her to my > tree.......what a shame that I had not heard about her........ 2X Great-grandma was Mary Catherine (Prestridge) Arrington. I was sent a slew of work on this side of the family by a woman who I fully respect in her genealogy work. Every thing she sent has panned out properly, as she has abstracted census, what marriages she can find in Heard Co., cemetery, etc. She believed the S. M. Prestridge, 9, found with William & Louisa Prestridge in the 1860 Randolph Co., AL census is our Mary Catherine. (And with all the boo boos we see on census records, I would not be surprised! S. M. -- Mary Catharine not a leap) She died in 1942 so now I think I must write GA for her death cert to see what it says. The 1860 would be the only census show would show with her parents, as she was not born until Nov 1850 and was married to John J. Arrington by the 1870 Census. I also know she had access to kin that are now deceased. Here are the first couple generations. Roy Lee Freeman & Mary Nellie Joyner were my husband's Grandparents. Descendants of John J. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Bd.2ADE/697.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Christy Yes, most of Heard County was Creek as was most of Middle and South Georgia as well as much of east AL. There were a few Seminoles in South Georgia (migrating from Florida into GA). Coweta County Ga (just across the Chattahoochee from Heard and Carroll) was home to the Coweta Indians as well; they were a tribe of the Creeks all of which were originally the Muskogee Indians. Indians which were married to whites were not forced to march on the Trail. As you might imagine, some pretended to be married to whites and were befriended by whites to avoid the Trail. Also, if they did not formally live within the boundaries of their towns i.e. in less densely settled areas, they were more able to escape the march. The Creeks were a relatively harmonious and peaceful people, very organized in their municipal and governmental matters. You may be familiar with the story of Chief McIntosh, who was chief of the Creeks and betrayed his tribe through treaties with the whites and was murdered by his tribe as a result. He lived in Heard Co on land that is now a state recreational area known as McIntosh Reserve. Email me directly and I'll send you what I have, i.e. the map and some other good links. Robyn

Surnames: Prince Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Bd.2ADE/697.1.1 Message Board Post: Just saw your post. Are you talkin about Heard Co., GA beingCreeks, rather than Cherokee? What about Monroe County, GA? I have gggrandparents who were in Monroe Co, 1830 census, 1840 census Heard Co. The grandfather, Samuel A. Prince, was convicted of a crime in Jones Co., GA. in 1824. They seem to have missed the Trail of Tears but went to AR bet 1845 and 1850. I'd love a copy of the map, or at least where to get it, if you don't mind. Thanks, Christy
