Daniel. I have wondered if the McCombs family that you mentioned came from Abbeville County, South Carolina (or old District 96 which Abbeville was a part of in the late 1700's). There were McCombs families in that area as well as Creswell (Criswell) families, and at least one of the Creswell (Criswell) families had family ties to the ASHLEY families in Abbeville, SC area with some of these family members moving to Calhoun County, Alabama. I have not checked the DANIEL name in the Abbeville Co. SC records yet to know if they might have been in that area of SC. Do your family records include anything about the Ashley family or Warren or Dunlap families of Heard Co. Georgia? I have suspected (but have not been able to prove or document) that my gg grandfather Reuben Ashley (who married Minerva Amanda Dunlap) came from the Abbeville County, SC area prior to going to Heard County, GA. Both he and his wife were born somewhere in South Carolina, as well as most (if not all) of Reuben Ashley's siblings. I have wondered if a group of families may have migrated to Heard County, GA from the Abbeville, SC area sometime in the late 1830's or early 1840's, including the Ashley, Warren, and McComb families, among others. I believe that the Dunlap families who were in Heard Co. Georgia came from Lancaster Co. SC prior to going to Heard Co. GA but do not know how or if Minerva Amanda Dunlap Ashley was related to them. Let me know if you have any thoughts or ideas about where your McCombs family came from in South Carolina and if you know of any family connections to the Warren, Ashley or Dunlap families to your McCombs family or allied lines. Thanks!

I believe that Mary married a "Bill Prince", but that is all I know about her.

Daniel (born 14 Sept 1814, died 24 Sept 1887) and Amanda C. McComb, (born 23 June 1819, died 8 July 1889). Amanda's parents were Andrew McComb and Zilphey Glenn McComb - they are buried at Salem also - theirs are among the earliest graves there that are marked. I do not know who Alexander's parents were - I've been unable to connect him to any of the other Daniels in Heard County. According to my records, William was born 5 May 1844. His sister Rebecca married James Jefferson Hammond and was my great-grandmother. His sister Martha Ora Zebba married Samuel Simonton and was my husband's great-grandmother.

I believe he was in the 3rd regt. vol. cav. but have no actual proof. He was born in Palermo, Maine in 1830. He was stationed in Baton Rouge, LA. He got Maleria and because he then got sand in his eyes, he became totally blind in one eye and sight impared in the other. He worked as an orderly in the Contiband Hospital in Baton Rouge until he received a medical discharge sometime (I believe) in 1863. He later became totally blind. I have no information on him before he enlisted or after his discharge until he married Anna Gale in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1873. She was also from Maine but I don't know how they happened to marry in Iowa. My father always said that his father was a doctor in the Civil War but I can find no record of this. I also cannot find a list of names of the men who served in this regt. Hope so much that someone can help me. DOROTHY (BENSON) GREIBERIS

No Brigmans at all in the index. I looked under the Gordons for Ida & Bud and didn't find them. And, I'm still looking for Lewis C. Smith & Susie but there are 54 pages that contain the Smith surname so it will be a little while yet as to whether I find them or not.
Jane ... Sorry, that was the Dicie Wood (Sappington) who was the sister of Bird Wood. Bird also had a daughter named Dicie/Dicey b. 1896. I don't have a marriage for her. Maybe that's the one who's connected to Candace's. There were a lot of Dicie/Diceys in that family because of Dicey Gay who married Winston Wood. Winston and Dicey also had a daughter named Dicey, b. 1843, d. 1855. I know Candace connects to the Gays, so her Dicey is probably in there somewhere. Winston Wood and Dicey Gay's son, William Thomas Wood, m. Nancy Ann Blake, daughter of Thomas Blake and Delaney Young of Randolph Co., AL(my GG grandparents). William Thomas Wood and Nancy Blake Wood were the parents of Robert Bird (or Bird Robert) Wood who married Alice Smith ... which gets us back to the original topic. Judy.
Thank goodness ! I know we all have a tendency to jump on a name after we see them so much in our research but I somehow knew that Candace had a Dicey so I wrote to her, asking her where in the dickens the little lady was hiding. Haven't heard back from her but am sure it must have been in her Gay family lines, too. Boy, these family lines sure do get to be convoluted and wrapped around so many times that I sometimes wonder what my own name is. Sure am glad my Mom gave me something as simple as Jane to go by ! But, I bet she didn't know that there were a thousand Jane Ashleys out there since 1800, either. Kinda like that old poem that states I am my own grandma ! Thanks, Judy ! > Jane ... > Sorry, that was the Dicie Wood (Sappington) who was the sister of Bird Wood. > Bird also had a daughter named Dicie/Dicey b. 1896. I don't have a marriage > for her. Valerie, Here's the 1900 census for Bird and Alice Wood: 1900 Heard County, Georgia census, Rockalo Dist., #126/131 (Ancestry image 13/31) ...Wood, Bird, head, WM, 36, Jan 1866, married 7 years, AL, GA, GA ...Wood, Alice, wife, WF, 30, Aug 1869, m. 7 years, 3 ch./3 living, GA, GA, GA ...Wood, Thomie, dau, WF, 5, May 1894, GA, AL, GA ...Wood, Dicie, dau, WF, 3, Oct 1896, GA, AL, GA ...Wood, Wheeler, son, WM, 7/12, Oct 1899, GA, AL, GA ...Wood, Nancy A, mother, WF, 60, June 1830, widow, GA, GA, GA Bird Wood was my first cousin, twice removed. It just might be time to invest in the Heard Co cemetery, marriage & history books. Jane -- Hmmmm -- Kansas Jones Thompson buried at the same place as Asa J. Smith!! Another reason to confirm she was Miss Brigman as a child. I would supposed she thought more of Asa Smith as her father, since Robinson Brigman died at Vicksburg 17 March 1863 when she was just short of 5 years old. Any Jones's buried at Olive Branch? Other Brigmans or Smiths? Two of the children of Asa Smith and Caroline Miller married Gordons, who I suspect to be siblings, but don't have enough information on them to confirm through 1880 census. Any thing else I can try to chase down in Coweta? Valerie
Those names don't ring any bells but I could have sworn that there was a Dicie Wood in my cousin Candace's family lines somewhere in her Skinner, McElroy, Teal, Dyer, etc. family. Guess I must have been mistaken. I must have dreamed that one up. Thanks !
