    3. Congratulations Larealia! That's wonderful to hear and welcome to the Society! As of 06 Dec 2003, my (father's) lineage of my Jacob/Jacobs family was accepted by the National DAR, too. That makes us 'both' newbie's and proud of it! If I can ever be of any help in the future from my neck of the woods (actually desert), just let me know. Again, congratulations on your achievement! 3. Don't know the answer to the first four questions, but it definitely says "Asa J.". I found the marriage entry in the Marriage Volume book that was put out by the Heard County Historical Society, listing an A.J. Regarding the 1900 census, I have it on a CD and was going thru it looking for family when I came across the two pages that was full of Miller, Bells, etc. I don't have Ancestry. If it isn't indexed (and my CD isn't either), does it go by page or what? I'm not terribly fond of Ancestry and have no subscription to it. Maybe if you tell me that, I can help guide you to the right page so you can find it. It was in the Franklin District, beginning about household 217 and running straight down from that. > Wonder if this is OUR Asa. Must have married her after Caroline. When did > Caroline die? Did they divorce? Tracing family lines gets so confusing. > Where did you find this entry. My Ancestry hasn't index 1900 yet. (I'm just > full of questions, aren't I? BG) > Carolyn

    3. Valerie, Yes, I think we have. I don't know where you get all your information from that you submit to the Ga website but it has been absolute priceless to me. Between you and Judy Kilgore's column and many others, I have collected so much information.None of hubby's Simonton cousins are interested in genealogy but I have have found a 3rd cousin of his, David Rogers, from another line that I am corresponding to as a result of something he submitted to USGenweb. (Information from the Wood Family Bible) I think this is one of the most fascinating things I have ever done. Just wish I had started sooner. Didn't start til about 3 years ago. Thanks for the offer of a copy of Asa's pension papers. Will be happy to contribute to the cost. Yes, there is a charge but it is nominal -- per page I believe. They just send you the stuff with a bill of copying costs + postage. 3. I don't believe it!!!! <BG> I have just spent 2 days going through my list of 1870 Heard Co. Simontons. I found the 1840, 1850, 1860 and partial 1930 transcriptions. I couldn't find any of my Simontons in the Ancestry 1870 index for Heard County. I found most of them by going though page by page.(WHEW!) Now I'll look at the 1870 index and see who I missed. If I had waited another couple of days, I would have seen the 1870 transcibed Heard, GA census and saved myself a lot of time and clicking. Oh well! The index must have just come on today. I think I was in there yesterday looking at 1860s. Better late than never. My question about Jane Miller was because she was out of order on the census page and there is such a gap in ages between her and the previous child, (18). Thought she may have been a granddaughter. Any helpers out there??? 3. Well, how time appropriate, Carolyn. I just uploaded the complete transcribed Heard, GA 1870 census about an hour ago. Yes, Jane Miller (age 8) is there. There is a complete set of index files so you can find the page she is on in the complete set of census detail files. ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/ga/heard/1870/ The Heard, GA 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 are all on-line And the 1880 Mortality list, and partial 1930. ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/ga/heard/ Connie Burkett Co-CC for Heard, GA -----Original Message----- From: Carolyn Simonton [mailto:keena@cfl.rr.com] Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 12:39 PM To: GAHEARD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [GAHEARD] 1870 Heard County Census Can anyone tell me who the Jane Miller, age 8, is in the 1870 Heard County, Georgia MD 788 Census with the family of John and Talitha Miller. I don't think she is a daughter because the next child is Willis, age 19. Any help is greatly appreciated. 3. Valerie, Hubby has an Asa J. Smith, husband of his great grand aunt, Caroline Elizabeth Miller. His Asa was born 9 Feb 1839 in Oglethorpe Co, Georgia and died 30 Jan 1911. He is buried in Olive Branch Cemetery. Is this your Asa? Is there a cost to getting his pension papers. 1. [GAHEARD] Andrew Jackson Smith - Co. C - Capor's Battallion
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Smith Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Bd.2ADE/726 Message Board Post: I wrote the Macon library for the pension papers for my Asa J. Smith. They accidently sent me the pension papers for Andrew Jackson Smith. They are both listed in the index as A. J. Smith and are both from Heard Co. so easy to see how it happened. Macon is sending me the correct ones, but if anyone is connected to Andrew Jackson Smith, I will be happy to send you the papers on him. He states he was born in 1844 in Heard Co. He is married, but does not give wife's name. Living at Crain, Heard Co., GA at time he filled out application on 3rd August 1908. I will post full trasciption to the archives before I send them off.
