Letter from Eitel Bauer, Forestry and Engineering Services, Pine Mountain, GA 31822, to Mr. Wm. W. Wills, Box 21, Auburn, AL 36830, dated May 7, 1971: "Further reference to the location of the Hasty Cemetery near Pine Mountain. Repreated searches have failed to discover the location of the Hasty Family Cemetery in the areas where it was said to be located by some of the older citizens of the community. Inquiries among some of the colored residents produced another lead. I was referred to Virgil Bryant, an employee of Gold Maintenance in the Callaway Gardens. Virgil says he was born and raised on the Hasty Place and is now approaching 70 years of age. According to him the cemetery was located west of the former Hasty house on land now occupied by the Gardens-Harris County Airport. Grading of the airport was done in the late summer and fall of 1965. Near the east end, where a cut of about 12" was being made, the machines turned up parts of a metal casket. Work was stopped and an investigation was made. There was no surface indication of any graves, but at the foot depth the prints of several graves were noted. No other material such as the casket was found. The County Ordinary was advised. According to his directions the fragments of casket were re-buried away from the airstrip, and a steel blade was used to mark the spot. Since then the airstrip has been widened, the opened area now including the steel blade marker. Virgil says that the cemetery thus discovered was the old Hasty Cemetery."
