Does anyone know where the Rebohoth Baptist Church records are? In the History of Harris County Book, I found , "Rehoboth Baptist Church Record, Cataula, Ga. in the possession of Mrs. J. W. Thompson. (She died 11-30-1956) My gr gr grandpapa was a Minister (Rev. Green Berry Waldrop) during the 1830s.Rehoboth Baptist Church was first located about one and a quarter miles below Cataula, Georgia The first original Rehoboth was burnt down. The Church was moved down to where the Church, "The Rock" is now. The Church was first across the street from the the fenced in Cemetery on the highway as you drive in to Cataula from Muscogee County. I would love to chek out the members of my Waldrop family that were members of the Rehoboth Baptist Church and lived in the Harris County area during the 1830s.. Thanks for any help. Sandra maiden name Waldrop Georgia
Rehoboth Baptist Church, was first located about one an a quarter miles below Cataula, Georgia. On March 10, 1839 , the Church was in conferences set. The Rev George Granberry was the Minister. It is thought that the Church was in existence before that date, but the other ministers are not known. It is thought that the Grandberry family gave four acres of land for the orginal site. The Church Cemetery is there, but the church as been moved to Cataula. In the first conference a letter was granted to sister Dinah a woman of colour, the property of the B.B. Buchannan. Mr. V A Hill was clerk. In November 17, 1839 , The Rev. George Granberry , Hiram McCullers, Willis Evenson were delegates to the Columbus. The following formed a presbytery viz: James Perryman, Wm. Henderson, G. B. Waldrop ( My gr gr grandpapa) Cary Willis, Anderson Smith, and Robert Fleming. Bother and Sister McKinley were dismissed by letter. A partial list of the members from the entry April 30, 1842, follows: Jesse Cox, Jane Cox, Robertson McCullers, Martha Ann McCullers, Tabitha Higgingbothoam, Emily Higgingbotham, Nancy Gunn, Martha Hamby, Mitchell Stribling, Newton McCuller, and a few more. It appears that Benjamin Waldrop (papa of the Rev. Green Berry Waldrop), Benjamin's wife Alsey and Bodi Waldrop had moved on. They were found in Alabama. Also : Heard Family Nancy Heard married Joseph Ryan Waldrop son of the Rev. Green Berry Waldrop from Georgia to Mississippi. Higgingbothams-Nancy Caroline Waldrop daughter of the Rev. Green Berry Waldrop married Seaborn Higgingbothom. Eavenson--The Rev. Green Berry buried in Eavenson's Cemetery. Higgingbothom and Eavenson along with the Heard were together with the Rev. Green Berry Waldrop in and around the 1820s until 1840. Henry Low Waldrop, the Rev. Green Berry Waldrop's son was born in Harris County. It appears many of these people were friends and traveled together and settled in the same places. Most of the Information I am sharing came from Talbot, Harris, Muscogee, Cowetta and other Counties in Georgia Libaries Court Houses and the friendly people in these Counties.. It appears these families were drawn here by the the land grants. Wadrops have also been found in Clayton, County, Georgia, Jonesboro, Georgia. Mr. Joseph H. Moore of Jonesboro, Georgia has Waldrop ancestors. Mr. Moore has great knowledge of the Civil War and the Battle of Jonesboros Georgia. Sandra maiden name Waldrop Georgia
Thanks, slowly but surly most on the lists have gotten in. Hope all has been well with you and (Uncle) John. Hope to talk to you soon and catch up on how you all are doing. Take Care. Sandra
Hi Sandra, You are using AOL and they send the links in a different format. Anyone not using AOL needs to copy and paste only part of the link. Ex: http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/georgia/ instead of: http://www.angelfire.com/wei rd2/georgia/ Or if they click on the link, they need to backspace until the last part is gone. Try this one: http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/georgia Sometimes when we copy the web address it doubles it. example: http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/georgia/ If it shows everything, then delete the rest. What you are getting is the code for the web page not the address - I'm not sure why it happens (insert the theme to the Twilight Zone) but on some of the web address that I copy to link to the Muscogee County pages does that. I simply delete the rest. Here is my daughter's web page "Gone and almost forgotten Georgia." She is branching out to surrounding Counties. If you know of any history or whatever is interesting about your County or any County in Georgia she will post the story and pictures or she and I will try our best to go to that County and take pictures. That is how we ended up in Jonesboro. She has posted some beautiful pictures of Jonesboro and the Cemetery, you might want to see. Jan started out with Muscogee County and has gone into Harris, Troup, Talbot, Cowetta, and others, along with going across the river into Phenix City, Al, Russell and Lee Counties. She has pictures and stories of things that have gone and almost forgotten. She brings back a lot of memories for people who are researching their past. No matter how small the story, it may be just what someone is looking for. Less that several months, she has received over six thousand visitors. She would love to cover as many counties in Georgia as possible. My hearts desire was to find a picture of an "Out House". to show my grandchildren was a Out House looked like. I found the most beautiful Out House sitting in the back yard of the Stately Oak Home. You wouldn't think of a Out House as being beautiful, check out Jan's site. I am sending her today a copy of the beautiful Out House in the beautiful surroundings of the Home in Jonesboro. She investigates, Civil War, Old Homes, Churches, Railroad Stations, Murders, hangings, old signs, Cemeteries and many other stories. If you can think of anything that is all most forgotten like my beautiful "Out House". Jan will be glad to come to your house and take a picture of your story. Let Jan know how you feel about her site and if you have anything to share. Her email address is on the Web Site. I hope you all will enjoy the site as much as I have reliving my past in all that Jan has brought back alive in pictures. Jan has heard from all over the United States from people who lived or has ancestors in Georgia. They too, have added to her site. http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/georgia/
Dear List members, I'm researching my Thomas White family of Elbert, Jones, Coweta, and surrounding counties in GA, and I ran across this Death Abstract from The Columbus Enquirer in 1852. Does anyone know anything about this person? The Columbus Enquirer Oct. 19, 1852 Col. John White, age 67, former State Legislator, Harris County, GA. Died Sept. 26, 1852 Any help or clues as to who this man was and who might have been his parents, I'd be forever grateful. If the age is correct, then Col. John White would have been born about 1785. If anyone is able to get the actual will document on any of the will abstracts being shared on this list by Dianne, it would be nice if you would type them up and share. Both Barbara and I would be glad to post them on our pages. Please add additional NOTES about the families involved. Virginia Crilley
