Sparks The death of this noble young man, occurred at the hospital in Columbus, on the 14th of June, and was rendered peculiarly sad, from the fact that his father was critically ill at a hospital in Atlanta, and his mother could not be with him; was on her way to see him, when the sad intelligence of his death, reached her. His brother, Mr. E.K. Sparks of Atlanta, attended his bedside, and other loving hands administered to every want. Wick held a responsible position as stenographer in Columbus, where he made many friends; quite a number accompanying the remains here, where the interment took place, at Shiloh cemetery. The casket being entirely covered with costly and lovely floral designs, the high esteem in which the deceased was held. He was a member of the M.E. Church, and a regular attendant at its ordinances, his last conversation with his mother, testifying to this assurance. Death came to this young man of fine promise; in the bloom of life, at the age of twenty- one years; and from a human standpoint before his work was finished. There is no surer prophecy of immortality that the incompleteness of human life. Indeed it is like an unfinished shaft. But somewhere in Gods great universe, there is a place, where life, God given life, will be completed. Faith whispers that there is surely such a place, that its gate is alas; the grave; but having once passed its portals we then only, shall begin to live. Then look up grief stricken loved ones, through your blinded tears, with a radiant hope of a happy reunion beyond the tomb. Mrs. G.Y.M. McDowell, where he had been since his return from San Antonio, Texas, hoping to regain his health there, but to no avail. In 1891 he attended school in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where he graduated, and on returning to Columbus accepted responsible positions with large firms in that city, winning the esteem, and confidence of his employees. On the 17th of June 1903 he was most happily married to Miss Annie Jeane McDowell. Few hearts and hands are ever so perfectly united in love as this congenial young couple. But their union of hearts was soon over. Mr. Huff was a consistent member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus, and truly can it be said, his life was an open book filled with noble, generous deeds, and acts of kindness. None named him but to praise, and speak of his many good traits of character. Though heavily the hand of affliction rested on him he was never know to murmur. Even in his last moments, faith and resignation shown forth from his beaming countenance. Truly realizing his condition, he endeavored to comfort those around him, by telling them he was prepared to meet his Savior, and all was well. But the tender parting with his devoted and grief-stricken young wife, beggars description after assuring her he would watch over her from heaven, the second meeting would be sweeter, he clasped her in loving embrace and the gentle spirit of this noble man passed to where beyond these voices there is peace. Though we mourn the loss of this magnetic character, yet, his life was not in vain; for his influence will never die. Yet more enduring than marble or bronze is the monument he has erected in the memory of his loved ones. The remains were tenderly laid to rest at Ellerslie, followed by a large concourse of bereaved relatives and friends. When the summer winds sing a requiem over this beloved spot, we will remember the voice of this dear one who is singing praises to God in heaven. O when our sun is setting may we glide, Like summer evenings down the tide, And leave behind us as we pass away, Sweet starry twilight around our sleeping clay. McDaniel died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James L. Willis, two miles west of Talbotton. For two years she has been confined to her home from the infirmities of age. She was only confined to her bed one week. All that loving friends and relatives could do was done to alleviate her suffering, but God saw fit in His wisdom to take her from among us and transport her to the glory land. Mrs. McDaniel was born October 22, 1820 near Cottonstone Mountain, South Carolina, and moved with her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Macon, to Harris County near Hamilton, Ga., in 1828 and was married to James Pritchard on February 22, 1842. Three children blessed this union, two of whom survive her. Mr. William H. Pritchard, who resides in Beckville, Texas, and Mrs. James L. Willis of Talbotton. The eldest, Mrs. William L. McDaniel, died several years ago at Marshall, Texas. Mr. James M. Pritchard died June 21st, 1830*, and she was married to George McDaniel in 1831*. Four children blessed this union, both preceding her to the grave. George McDaniel died April 13th, 1881. She joined the Methodist church at Hamilton, Ga., when she was thirteen years of age where she remained a member until a few years ago when she came to maker her home with her daughter. She moved her membership to Olive Branch Methodist church in Talbot County. On Friday evening May 13th funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Tom Stuart. Her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Baughville in the presence of many friends and grief stricken relatives. We weep not for her as one who died without hope in Jesus, for her walk through life was that of a consecrated child of God. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the sick and distressed and was charitable to the extent of her worldly means. In her last days she never murmured and often remarked that she was ready and waiting the Fathers call to go. A Friend *Note - There are several discrepancies regarding the dates listed in this obituary. The date of Sarahs first marriage to James M. Pritchard (2/22/1842) and the death date for Mr. Prichard (6/21/1830). Im not connected to this family and do not have any information to compare with this obituary.
