    1. Perryman
    2. Re: Perryman family. I ran into some info on Internet with a family, I think named Vinning, I might be wrong, but any way they were looking for the surname Perryman. I am not related to the Perrymans, but I have information thru a Taylor County History Book . My Maternal Aldridge sold land to Perryman in Taylor County. My paternal Waldrop Rev. Green Berry Waldrop was listed with Perryman while here 1827 -1840 constituting Baptist Counties in Taylor and surrounding areas. My ancestors along with others migrated to Taylor, Gwinette, Cowetta, Muscogee the in 1827 they moved to Harris County with the 1827 Land Lottery. Rev. Waldrop lived in Hamilton, Georgia. The Perryman's had families in Taylor County. If the family would like to email me and I'll look thru the Columbus Georgia Baptist Assoc. Info and the Taylor County History Book. I have ran thru Perryman often in my research for my Aldridges and Waldrops. Sandra maiden name Waldrop Muscogee County, Georgia Waldrop, Aldridge, Liverman, McBride, McKenzie White, Richardson

    1. Hamilton , Georgia 175th Adv,
    2. Att: Hamilton, Georgia, Congratulations on your 175th celebration Saturday. You have a beautiful little town and you can tell the people who live there loves it. The Firemen out did themselves in giving their time and support to their town. Smokey the Bear was great with the children and he also took the time to pose with me for my daughter's site. Bobby Peters was having a great time as hot as it was visiting with everyone, big smile and firm handshake. Mr. Peters also let us take a picture of him.( to see these pictures of the Celebration go to http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/georgia/ Some of the pictures are up, I think Jan still has more to post. My interest in Hamilton , Georgia , my gr gr grandpapa came to Harris County by way of Gwinnett County, Georgia in the 1827 Land Lottery. He was in Harris County 1827-1840. On census he was listed in Hamilton, Georgia. He owned land thru out Harris, Talbot and Taylor Counties. He help constitute many Baptist Churches. He was minister of the Bethel Baptist Church on Flat Park Road 1832-1840. The area was in Flat Rock , Georgia at that time, now it's in Muscogee County. The food smell great, people were gathering in groups and talking and laughing, there were booths for the Children. Also I learn something. Whitesville was the first little town in Harris County. I've heard of Whitesville Road, but didn't know there was a small town named after the White family. There were also Religion singers from the area that were well worth sitting down and leaning back and listing to. I enjoyed walking around in the town my gr gr grandpapa lived in 177 years ago. My gr grandpapa left Hamilton when he was fourteen years old. Somewhere in the Hamilton are he lived , went to church and played with his friends. He married Nancy Heard. The Heard family moved to Mississippi about the time my Waldrops moved in 1840.This is when genealogy comes alive and makes it all worth while. Thanks Hamilton, Georgia, let us know the next time you celebrate, we'll be there. Sandra maiden name Waldrop Muscogee County, Georgia

    3. There are so many wonderful items being donated.... so be sure to take a look. And remember you may have something in your file that is just the thing someone else has needed. Review some of your materials -- you may have some things that you'd forgotten you even had. I've found that typing up something will also help me "grasp" something that I may have missed earlier. The GA Archives Uploads page has been updated to reflect the uploads of 23 May thru 29 May 2004. You can view the updated page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gauploads.html To become a submitter, click here: http://www.genrecords.org Many thanks to all our submitters.

    3. "Comprehensive Topical Index (All Names and Places) in the Compiled History of Harris County, Georgia, 1827-1961 (First Edition, 1961), by Louise Calhoun Barfield," by Frances Pauline Hammett (Cherith Creek Designs: Columbus, GA, 1991), 239 pp. (Frances is a granddaughter of Louise BARFIELD.) On pp. 688-89 of BARFIELD's history, there is a sketch about Miss Fannie Mae McCULLOHS, which ends: "Miss McCULLOHS is the granddaughter of General Henry LOWE [1795-1854], who lived at Ossahatchee, near Ellerslie, Ga. Among the heirlooms there are two candelsticks which lighted the big supper table when her grandfather, General LOWE, entertained President James K. POLK at his home in Ossahatchee." P. 434: Ellerslie: "The Wire Road [Historical] Marker - This road marks the route of the first telegraph from Washington to New Orleans via Columbus, completed in 1848. The road entered Harris County at Mount Airy (later Ridgeway) five miles from here. A stagecoach inn, store houses and schools there were almost swept away by the cyclone of 1875. On this road stood Bethesda Baptist Church, organized in 1828, later moved to Ellerslie. The home of Gen. Henry LOWE near this junction entertained ex-President POLK and many other prominent visitors as they came from Milledgeville, the capital of Georgia, along the Wire Road." P. 446: General LOWE Entertains Ex-President POLK (Southern Hosptility--Harris County DeLuxe, March, 1849) - Southern hospitality was at its best on March 14, 1849, when Ex-President POLK, enroute to Columbus, spent a night at General Henry LOWE's plantation home. He enjoyed in abundance fine foods (served as only the South can serve special recipes) and genial companionship. A Baby Grand mahogany piano furnished the music for the gay evening of dining and dancing. Accompanied by his family, POLK left the next morning in a pouring rain escorted by a large, enthusiastic crowd. He was met at Columbus, Georgia by a procession led by a brass band. He was conducted into the city in a carriage drawn by four horses. His wife and nieces followed in a carriage drawn by four gray horses." A record of the Gen. Henry LOWE family appears on p. 445, and a record of his son John Henry LOWE's family appears on p. 446. Indexed are several other references to Gen. LOWE and his family, including the McCULLOHS. Hope this helps, John in TX Virginia Crilley wrote: > I don't know the answer to this -- but thought someone on this list > probably does. > > Either about Barfield's history and its index or about President Polk > coming through Harris County. > > >> Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 17:38:25 -0700 >> From: "virginia w. alexander" <cvalex@cpws.net> >> Subject: President James K.
