I have volumes to add to the book on my family and other data I have collected over the years. How is in charge of compiling and publishing? Rex
I purchased a copy of the History of Harris County book and the index from Mrs. Barfield's granddaughter who lives in Columbus. I don't know if it would be appropriate to post her name and phone number without her permission. I will be glad to call and ask her if I can give this information to the list. Hi Yall, Saw this message so I did a little calling for ya and found out there are copies I believe she said 40 sets but they are $300.00 a set. And also I am not to put the ladies name or her daughter or her Mothers name on here because she doesn't want her personal business or name on the internet so .........anyway I am trying to do some more calling and find out exactly how many copies are left. I wanted one but I don't know about no $300.00 for two books. Also she said she has no plans to republish and there are no more copies at the Harris County Library. Sorry. It's called History of Harris County, Georgia, 1827-1961, by Louise Calhoun Barfield. The only problem with it is that it's not indexed. I covered it page by page and found burial places for many of my ancestors. This was no easy task since it's over 400 pages. The churches and cemeterys of the county are described and then followed by a complete listing of those who are burried there. (of course it only goes up to 1961) It has been invaluable to me. I've tried to locate a copy for myself but suppose that the printing company is out of business. It was printed in USA by The Columbus Office Supply Co., Columbus, GA. If anyone knows where I might find a copy I'd really appreciate being notified. The one in the public library here, in Gwinnett County, Georgia, is literally falling apart. I've tried to buy it from the library, but of course that wasn't allowed. Hello again list, Thank you so much for the information on the book I questioned. My library has no index, and I had no idea that one existed. That's just wonderful, and I really would love to have one for myself. I have found so many of my Crawford relatives in it, and I feel that as I discover more lines some of them will be there also. Truly, Sheila
they were selling copies at the hamilton, ga., library for awhile, as well as copies of the index which was published later by barfield's daughter. the georgia archives has an index as well. you might try the hamilton library for further information. there's also an index at the bradley memorial library in columbus, ga.

How wonderful it would be to have a Heritage Book. I would be delighted to contribute any information I have on my family members. - ----------------------------------------------------------- It's hard to be nostalgic when you can't remember anything. I and my husband are in the process of building a website on states in the southeast. Im going to have basic information on records and links. If someone familiar with the records available for this county could take a look at it and correct me on information or can add info (especially county history), I would really appreciate it. Also any feedback from anyone is also helpful. The address is http://www.segenealogy.com then go to the state and county page. Thanks in advance. I have enjoyed being of help to all of you. I have had a great number of people who have helped me when I needed it and it feels wonderful to be doing something in return. .However, I do have one request. Please send only one name per request, (variations of the name are fine), and send only one request per day as I am busy with my own research as well and running a household. Please do not take this as my not wanting to help. I have received requests for as many as four surnames at once and they wanted me to search all 4 databases. This does take time. So, I will have to limit what I will do at one time but by no means take this as me not wanting to help. Thanks for understanding, Cari

Thanks to all who submitted responses to the query concerning the location of Rehoboth Church Cemetery. I think you were all describing the same place. We now have a lot more information about this cemetery than we did previously. Some of the responses were not posted to the list, but I will be posting it on the Harris Co site soon. I live in Cataula, Harris Co., and the Rehoboth Church Cemetary (this is a Black church) on Preston Rd- which was Rehobeth Rd until a few years ago when they changed the name. Is this the church you are referring to? If so I live about 1 mins away from the church and 1 mile from the cemetary, the cemetary is located on Hwy 27 or what the area folks have always called it Hamilton Rd. The 1st Baptist Church Cemetary (white folks) and the Rehobeth Baptis Church cemetaries are side by side on Hamilton Rd. In the last couple of years they added a small strip of fencing between the cemetaries (just to define the boundry between the two. The Rehobeth Cemetary is on the left and the 1st Baptist cemetary is on the right. And they are both directly across from Dr Blackmar Vet. and next to the Vet is the Cataula Post Office. Or the Vet and Post Office are on the West side of the road and the Cemetaries are on the East side of the road. You can't miss them they are very visible from the road. One thing I hope this is what you are looking for, Your Mulberry Grove thing is messing with my mind, because I don't think we are considered Mulberry Grove. Mulberry Grove is probably about 5 mins from Cataula out Ga Hwy 315.. If I can help you any, let me know. I am writing a Regimental History on the 17th Georgia Infantry. I would like to make people aware of the book in order to locate descendants of the soldiers and officers of this Regiment. If you are a descendant and would like to have any information included in the book, such as photos, letters, diaries, brief genealogical data or burial date and location, please contact me at: [email protected] The book will include all references, in chronological order, to the 17th Georgia Infantry that are in the Official Records, better known as the "OR Vols". It will also have information as to all of the battles the Regiment took part in, abstracted information from military records and pension records, a complete roster of each company, letters, photos and as much genalogical data as space permits. I am doing extensive research on this regiment and expect it to take at least 1-2 more years before publication. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. With Regards, Linda Snow Davis
