No I have not been to the Spear cemetary, I do not know exactly where it is located in Pine Mountain. Could you give me the directions to it. I know how to get to Pine Mountain. Thanks!
I send messages to all of the counties that I do because everything is in a general area where I'm searching!! I show that a Joshua (EASTRIDGE or ESTES) was born in 1840 in Georgia. (He died in March of 1864, a civil war casualty.) Frances Hart (who was born in 1842 in Georgia), and Joshua were married on 2 December 1860 in Troup County, Georgia. They had two children ---- BEN or BENNETT born in 1862 (in Tallapoosa County, Alabama) and Dixie (nicknamed Bud) who was born in 1863 (in Troup County, Georgia). I have been unable to find out whether good Ole JOSHUA had the surname of EASTRIDGE or ESTES!! One story floating around says that during the 1860 Census, the enumerator couldn't spell EASTRIDGE, so the entire family became ESTES. Which would explain why it may have been changed on the census papers!! But I really don't think a census enumerator could make people use a surname that wasn't the one they were born with!! I have quite a lot of information on both Ben and Dixie, including wives names, and children's names. My information on Dixie is more extensive because he is allegedly in my direct lineage!! Apparently, DIXIE used the name EASTRIDGE but I just got a feeling that I'm overlooking something fairly important!! I have been able to obtain a Copy of a marriage license from Troup County, Georgia for a JOSHUA ESTES and a FRANCES HART Dixie's death certificate shows that his mother's name is "FANNIE HART", but lists his father as unknown. Any ideas??? Mike Eastridge

I am busy researching my roots and need help! Research material here in Texas is limited so I'm seeking help elsewhere ANY available information on the EASTRIDGE family is needed. Need virtually anything for information from census information to tax records, to birth and marriage record information --- ANYTHING!!! Mike Eastridge [email protected]
Thank you all for the welcome. I am just starting my GA research on the LAWSONs. John and Nancy were in Harris Co. census in 1830. They had a large family. My great grandfather Pleasant F. LAWSON was born 1-1-1831. I always thought he was born in Wilkes County - until I found the census! I don't know if there are any records of births, etc. for that time period in Harris County. If anyone should know, I'd appreciate knowing. I will be watching and listening to you all - I need to learn about Harris County. Thanks again, Joyce [email protected]

This site is an excellent site for finding out of the way places. If you haven't tried this mapping site yet you should definitely give it a try. Cari TopoZone - The Web's Topographic Map for those who can just click! http://www.topozone.com/ for those who need the address.
This is an interesting site on how to identify the date of an old photo. It is wonderful in that you can look at actual images from the 1840's-1900. It is valuable because you can see what type clothing or hairstyle your ancestors might have worn in a certain time period as well as having photos for you to look at to help determine what year yours might have been taken. Check it out. I have placed a list of available probate records at the GA State Archives for Harris Co. This film is available for purchase at a reasonable price through the state archives if you get permission for the purchase from Harris Co. Most, and possibly all, of these are probably also available for rental through your local LDS FHC. Ancestry.com has a free database for the next 9 days. It is Georgia Marriages from the last half of the 1800's. early 1900's. I don't think Meriwether Co. is listed but thereare several neighboring counties in the database. It is worth taking a look if you have GA ancestors. www.ancestry.com When you get to the opening page there should be something somewhere that says free databases. If not, there is a full database list available. Just look around, you will find it. Have fun! Cari

You might get a larger response if you sent a list of members of this regiment. Many of us could have family members in it and not be aware of that.
Hello everyone, For those who missed my previous post, I am writing a Regimental History on the 17th Georgia Infantry. I am trying to locate any descendants of the soldiers and officers in order for them to be aware of the book. Harris Co., along with 6 other counties, was included in the enlisting counties for that regiment. If you have an ancestor who fought in the Civil War and served in the 17th and would like to include anything in the book please email me at [email protected] The book will include all mentions of the 17th in the Official Records, better known as the OR Vols., a complete Roster of each company, chronological order of the battles, photos, letters, diaries, brief genealogy, burial place, abstracted compiled service records and pension records. I will have a chapter specifically for photos. I have also located a re-enactors unit that depicts the 17th Ga. Inf. Co. K out of Columbus, Ga and will have an introduction to the unit. Feel free to email me with any questions concerning the book. With Regards, Linda Snow Davis
I have made several changes to the Harris Co GenWeb site. TO SUBMIT CEMETERY RECORDS I am no longer using the Query Express system for cemetery record submissions. If you would like to submit transcribed cemetery records, please put them in text format (*.txt) or in MSWord format (*.doc) and either place them in an email or attach them to an email and send them to me. It is preferred that family members be grouped together if they were buried in the same lot. If possible, include directions to the cemetery or an address. Please let me know if you are submitting an entire cemetery or part of one. If anyone lives in the Harris County area who would be willing to transcribe data for a cemetery, please let me know. I have placed a Cemetery Records selection on the chart on the front page and also on the records index page. QUERIES & SURNAMES I have removed the old queries and surnames from the site. Many of the email addresses were no longer valid. Also, the GenConnect System makes the old query and surname pages no longer necessary. You will need to resubmit your queries to GenConnect if you had them only on the old pages. I am still maintaining the old records pages (wills, deeds, Bible records, etc) and will continue to do so. Hello I am looking for Rogers and Reed connection in Harris Co. family of JOHN FLETCHER ROGERS and his wife OPHELIA REED ABT 1860 -70. Bea Post [email protected]
Hi everyone, I'm new to the list and recently found the 1860 and 1870 Harris County census images online. What a great treasure! If you haven't checked it out yet, go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/harris/census and select the year you wish to view. The images do not have an index, so you'll have to know the page number on which your ancestor appears to use this efficiently. And if anyone is researching the lines of Jonathan WATSON m. Jane GRANT in 1849 Harris Co. GA and their son James Monroe WATSON b. 1852 m. Francis JOHNSEY (dau. of Andrew JOHNSEY and Jeanette DORMAN) please contact me. Good Luck everyone! Lorien Gunsallus
