List, Two family cemeteries, that of Rev. Humphrey Grant with his children Hannah and John, and the graves of the James Anderson "Big An" Grant and Josiah Prater (Assassinated)are on the old Grant homeplace at 6033 Grant Ford Rd., Gainesville, which has been purchased and will be developed very soon as a "gated" subdivision. Though there were stipulations included in the zoning approval by the Hall County Commmissioners for fencing for the Grant-Prater cemetery and access for the family to both cemeteries I cannot find any reference to the developer following Georgia State law in making notice to the descendants of the zoning of the property. If not for the diligence of an advocate of the family cemeteries under attack in Hall County by developers and her friendship with an friend of mine who knew my husband was a Grant relative all of this would have slipped past our noses. My husband notified the Commissioners of the 2 cemeteries and the Commissioners ordered the stipulations for access and fencing. Is anyone related to these two families, Prater and Grant, aware of any notice to the families regarding the cemeteries from the developer? Has anyone been contacted by a genealogist or the developer and given notice of the proposed (now a fact) development of the property upon which these ancestors rest? Once the development is gated I have no idea how the families now and in the future will be able to access the cemeteries.
