I am searching for ALL related articles to this shooting. This William Bill Stewart(b 1837 Haywood Co NC, Died Oct 19 1875 Union Co GA) is my Great great Grandfather. William Stewart was the Grandson of Noah Stewart (Union Co) and the son of John Stewart of Polk Co Tenn. The following is from the newspaper Mountain Signal Oct 30 1875. "Mountain Signal (Lumpkin Co Oct 30 1875)""Homicide---William Stewart was killed on Tuesday night, 19th of this month,some five miles north of Blairsville. We get the following information in regard to the sad affair from the Gainsville Eagle: Mr Stewart had been for some time, acting as a guard for some revenue officers, and on the day previous to his death, was at Blairsville, in the discharge of his duty. In the evening he was discharged, and as he was returning home after nightfall, was fired upon by parties concealed by the roadside and instantly killed. We learn that six or eight shots were fired, but up to the time of our informant left, no clues had been obtained as to the perptrators". Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
