The women were playfully handling a revolver, which was supposed to be unloaded, when it was discharged, the ball taking effect in the body of the young lady. Mrs. Wheeler is prostrated with grief over the accident, which will, in all probability, terminate in the death of Miss Wheeler. Medical aid was summoned soon after the shot was fired, but it is not believed by the attending physician that the young lady can recover. The Wheelers are well known in Banks and Hall counties, and the accident is greatly regretted by their friends. I have only recently started working up my family tree, and I think I have some information on a branch of one of our common anscestors. My mother claimed his name was John William Steadman, but census records I have found list him as Joshua and Joshuway. He was born ca.1805 in NC and died between 1912 and 1917. He fell into the Muddy Fork river and drowned and was buried in Nathan AR. His children were: Josh Steadman, William B. Steadman, Elizabeth J. Steadman, John Henry Steadman, Sarah C. Steadman, and Rhoda Ann Steadman. I am certain about the girls, but may be mistaken about the boys, I just have not worked them up as closely as the girls. The last name has been listed as Steadman, Stedman, and Stidman, but the children look to be the same. If you think this may be a branch of your family, let me know and I will be happy to share all the information I have. Bill Woods

Their children included Nancy Minerva Huckabey, b. 31 Dec 1839; plus Littleberry Huckabey, James Turner Huckabey and others. I am particularly interested in Nancy M. Huckabey who married S. G. (son age 19), M (daughter age 15) and A.S. (son age 6). These are from his first marriage. I believe that Armstead is my great great great great grandfather through his son Burrell H. from his second marriage. My mother remember's hearing about a Granny Susie that would have been married to Burrell.

They were married in Franklin County in 1818, following the death of Nancy Ann's first husband, James Little, in Franklin County in 1815. Asa and Nancy Ann Griffin are buried in Banks County in the John Chambers Sr. cemetery. I do not know of any connection of your Redman family to that of Asa Griffin, son of John Griffin, born in NC.
