I was told that my ggggrandfather John Holloway was born in North Georgia in 1800 before Hall became a county (1818). His father, probably Solomon Holloway, traveled with a group including the Becks into Georgia from SC/NC. According to records, John married Dorcas (Dorky) Beck on 11 August 1832 in Hall County. She was the daughter of Isaiah Beck, Sr. These men later settled in Carroll County GA with John and his family moving to Randolph County AL in the late 1860's. I would appreciate any information or suggestions for sources in Hall and/or Rabun County. Thanks. JMFuller.
Regarding the information on http://www.rootsweb.com/~galumpki/whatsnew.htm Dan, There is an error in the Cavender Memorial Cem, information according to my records; The information online gives the dates for Clemeth Cavender, jr. as Clemeth Cavender 05-12-1812 -- 10-06-1898 [Son of Clemeth Sr. and Rebecca Cavender]. I have the birth date year as 1821, and that is supported by census records. 1864 Census for the Re-Organization of the Georgia Militia, Hall Co., GA, 33 Senatorial District-434th GMD A.R.COOPER, Enrolling Officer; James T. It has always bothered me that she is not listed in the cem. records since there are so many Barnes folks listed there. I have not checked much more, but is this the proper way to send additions and/or corrections to the information such as identifying folks in the cems and pictures? As far as I know, there was only the State Mental Hospital at Milledgeville, Baldwin Co, GA. But there may have been others. I found my gg-grandmother as an "inmate" there in the 1900 census records. CENSUS: 1900 Scottsboro township, Baldwin Co, Ga, Ga. State Sanitarioum, GA Mil. Dist #321, Inmate Elizabeth Farris, White, age 55, born GA. The only record they still had on her was her death date of Jun 27, 1914. They show no record of where she was buried, nor did they still have her medical records. But her daughter also died there in 1953. I got a court order for release of the records and received her medical files. She also died there, but the death certificate they filled out was worthless. It did not list her parents names, or other info. needed to support the other info. I had found. The hospital is today called Central State Hospital, Milledgeville, Ga. There is a web site for the Central State Hospital and it contained several contact persons for information about patients, etc. I emailed Wendy M. Veal, Program Assistant, HIMD, Central State Hospital Phone# (478) 445-5781 [Email: WVeal@dhr.state.ga.us]. She provided me with the date of my gg-grandmother's death. Hope this helps you find your ancestor in GA. On the index for the 1880 mortality schedule at Ancestry.com, it lists "Whelchels and Rolkesville." And on the top of the page where Horace is listed, it looks like the same thing. However, Rolkesville should be Polksville. For the 1880 census, Whelchels GMD 570 and Polksville GMD 810 were combined together into the 139th enumeration district, and the enumerator assigned was Howard Thompson. Because it says "Whelchels and Polksville" at the top of the Mortality Schedule, its hard to tell which GMD Horace actually lived in. I'm not sure about any mental institutions that may have existed in either of those districts at that time. However, if there was one, the patients should be enumerated all together on the 1880 census. So, you could look through every page of the 139th enumeration district and see if you find a mental institution. Good luck

We have looked everywhere. Or do you know anywhere else this family might have lived? We both have been told that Austin is William's father but we can't find him anywhere. Does anyone know any of the siblings of William Christopher Hyde? We do know that he has two sisters names Francis and Julia but we need to know if he had anymore siblings. So maybe we can find out who is William's father. Thanks, Leah Hyde Latimer
