I'm interested in John MARTIN in the 1820 census of Hall Co GA, who was listed in the Oliver Miller District. Can anyone tell me where this District was? What county was it in before 1818? Thanks, John

My 3G grandfather was James T. Simpson. His wife was Lei Pirkle. They came to Hall county from Anderson district, SC. I don't know if this is too far back to make a connection. I don't have any additional information about Lei Pirkle other than that from her cemetary record at Hopewell Baptist Church. This is in the Cemetaries of Hall County by Sybil McCray. Donna, thank you for your response. I have just been in touch with the historical society and they have steered me toward other Gainesvilles. I simply jumped to the conclusion that your town was so near the Chickamauga conflict that it must have been there. Maybe we have both learned something now. Blessings, Orpha Vincent
Did we really have a civil war battle or skirmish in Gainesville GA in 1862? In September 1862 there were conflicts in Gainesville VA (Virginia) Part of Second Manassas http://www.civilwarhome.com/manassasevents.htm Also in Oct 1862 there were the hangings of Unionists at Gainesville TX http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/GG/jig1.html The 23rd Indiana was around Gainesville Alabama but not until after Oct 1982. The 20th Indiana seems to have been in VA during Sept 1862. I would be glad to know of any conflicts in the Gainesville GA area for the web page. Donna Parrish

Clark born 7 Apr 1757, Shenandoah Co., VA. He was a Major in the American Revolution. He first married Elizabeth SEVIER, daughter of the first governor of TN, John Sevier. From information I've found from various web pages, they had about 3 children, and then she died 15 Nov 1790. He married Ruth GORDON 14 Feb 1792, and they had several children. He died in Hall Co., GA in 1843. William Clark was listed on page 114 of the 1830 Hall Co., GA census. My gg-grandfather, Caleb CLARK, was listed on page 113 of the same census. Members of Caleb's descendants have been trying to find his parents for over 50 years, and none of us have been successful. Caleb was born in 1794, reportedly in SC. I really don't think Caleb was William's son, but he could have been a nephew or cousin. If any of you have any information on William H. Clark, his brothers and their ancestors, I would be forever grateful if you would share that information. I'll be happy to share what information I have. Thank you. In the 1970 census, Silas is listed as 48, his wife Lucinda is 45, dau Martha is 18, Mary is 16, son Allen (?) is 14, Caroline is 12, William is 12, James is 9, Frances is 5, and Ella is 11/12. Apparently, this family moved to Saint Clair County in late 1870's, as they show up in the Saint Clair Co census, with only wife Lucinda, and daughters Frances and Ella. Frances married in Saint Clair in 1885, and Ella V. MAY have married my grand father in 1883, at age 13, and my gf was 18. I don't know where this union ended, as my grandfather married again in about 1893. Is this the family you are researching? If so, I would appreciate hearing from you. I checked the surname list for Elmore County, and noone is researching the Silas Dobbs family. Elton R. Jackson
