Would it be possible to publish the index for the "Wills and Deeds of Hall County , Georgia" book, either on the list or on the Hall Co. page? I would buy one if I knew it contained information pertinent to my family research. Thanks, Greg

I was wondering is your collins were related to Shadrack Collins borned in 1785 in Marion co Ga. Seems as he just fell from the sky,we have not been able to tie him into any other collins clan. He married Mary Pounds and had ten children. If your collins are related or you know of someone that has information on this family any info would be greatfully appricated. Maybe at the courthouse or at a lawyers or to someone who was educated. Then they asked whoever was handy to witness it. As to dower rights, frequently I have seen separate affidavits stating that the wife was interviewed and understood that she was giving up her rights. Currently Georgia laws require 1 notary and 1 independent witness. Donna
Hi Joe, I am skeptical of it too but wanted to find out if it was included in Genealogy 101 and I skipped class that day. My experience is that witnesses are usually based on convenience. Whoever happens to be nearby. Thanks for the reply. June 5, 1846, died early), Missouri Francis [should perhaps be "Frances," but written "Francis" in the family bible] Shippey (b. 1846), and James H. P. Shippey ( b. 1849, d. 1877). I have many letters from John Milton Lokey, the son of Missouri Shippey, that give much information on this branch of the family, but I do not have time at the moment to dig it out. Several years ago I placed copies of John M. Lokey's letters on file at the Georgia Archives in Atlanta. Mr. Lokey also sent me a photocopy of a page from the old family bible. Missouri married John William Lokey (b. 1845). James H. P. Shippey never married. He is buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas. I have a photograph of his tombstone sent by Mrs. Frances Waldrup of Mansfield, Texas. When I locate the photograph in my files, I can post more thorough information ! about him. Elizabeth Johnson Shippey had brothers living in the Austin and Houston, Texas, areas prior to the Civil War. I have sometimes wondered if there is a connection with the family of President Johnson.

I have a copy of John's will in which he refers to his son Samuel. This John had a son named John who might have died in 1813. The son was living in York County, South Carolina, around the turn of the century. Samuel is buried in the family cemetery in Cherokee County on land that once belonged to the family. I have visited the cemetery and copied names from the tombstones. I also have photographs of them. This Samuel is not to be confused with another Samuel who died in 1816 (possibly the son of the Samuel who died in 1836).

I have added several pages to my website. These pages list the heirs who lived outside of Henderson County NC and are included in "Abstract Henderson County Estate Records 1838 - 1900" I hope this helps you link to Henderson County. The heirs are listed by State and then County, if the county was given in the documents. Click below to review the list: http://ksummers55.home.mchsi.com Kathy Summers
Looking for info on a John COTTAH (COTTAT) and a D. R. SILLAVAN (SILLAVIN). John COTTAH was a witness and D. R. SILLAVAN was the J.P. to a 1825 deed in GA. I think they were residents of DeKalb Co but could be residents of Hall Co. Does anyone know either of these gentlemen? Thank you, Eldon mailto:[email protected] Researching: WADE, HAMES
Howdy Folks, I could really use your help on this. I am looking for any record of an Edward WADE in Hall Co GA in the 1820s. My ggg-grandfather Elijah WADE bought land in Hall Co on Oct. 1, 1825. The subscribing witness to that deed was an Edward WADE. I think this Edward may be the father of Elijah but I can find no record (other than this deed) of an Edward WADE in Hall Co in the 1820s. Was there any Edward WADE who was a resident of Hall Co in the 1820s? Or is the Edward who witnessed the deed in Hall Co the same Edward that was in adjoining Gwinnett Co in the 1820s? Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you, Eldon mailto:[email protected] Researching: WADE, HAMES
