Hello, I live in Winston County, Alabama, and I would like to have a couple of early marriages from Hall County. Are they available for copying? If someone can let me know the cost to do this and are willing, I will send the money. Thomas M. John Baylis Crane and his wife, Juriah were both born in South Carolina. I am not familiar with any Atkins of Adkins in the Crane family although since it is a common name, it is possible. I wish that it would be that easy. This Crane family has not been traced beyond John B Crane's generation.

I've heard that this name "Baylis" is supposedly someway connected to a judge named Baylis Earl who was popular in Georgia. That there was a period of time that this name was popular in naming boys after this judge. I don't know. If you know anything else about Watson, that may match up with having a son born in 1840 named Baylis, let me know. Baylis's parents have been a mystery for sometime. Thanks, Michelle

There was a Watson Adkins that lived near Balis Crane in the 434th District of Hall County in 1840. Balis Crane is found in NW Lumpkin Co. in 1850. I wonder if there is a connection between these families.
Sonny, I was hoping someone would respond that is much more knowledgable than I on your 1820 map question, as I too would like to know a little more about the 1820/30 Militia Districts of Hall Co. GA. I can only assume that Captain Buffington's Distrist may have been where the Buffingtons and the Dunagans lived later, on the 1840 census, in the Tadmore GMD 268 and Glades GMD 403 areas. You may already know this, but Dan Pierce has posted a map of these later GMD's, Land Districts, and a map with land lot numbers on it, at the Hall Co., GA web site. This map has been very helpful to me in my research of lower Hall Co. and have found where my families lived there according to my family's Deeds and the maps posted by Dan. I am distantly related to the Buffingtons and Dunagans, but have very little information on them to share. Good luck, and if you find an earlier map, or additional information on these early GMD's, please do contact me. __________________________________________________________________ The NEW Netscape 7.0 browser is now available. Believe they had 4 or 5 daughters and a son. Son's name may be Baylis Franklin Atkins b. 1840. Joseph may have died prior to 1860. Was probably born around 1800 in South Carolina, as well as Rebecca. They resided in Hall County between 1840 and 1850.
