    1. [GAHALL] Lula Methodist Church/Rev. J.H. Smith
    2. TK Smith
    3. Anyone familiar with Lula Methodist Church history? Searching for infomation on Rev. J.H.Smith who, according to the Hall Co. website, was pastor from 1938-43 and 1948-49. I have reason to believe that he was JAMES HARVEY SMITH (born Jul 1876 GA), son of Isaiah & Martha Smith of Milton Co and was married to CORA JAMES. Harvey and Cora were the parents of JAMES PAUL SMITH, born abt 1905 GA (married Bertie Mae ___? and also a Methodist minister) and ANNIE MAE SMITH, born 27 Feb 1911 GA, married to BOB HUGHES, died 14 Dec 1996 in Gainesville. I have been told that Annie Mae and Bob lived in Chicopee, GA. I assume that Annie Mae and Bob are buried somewhere in Hall Co but I have no idea where at this time. The last record I have of Harvey and Cora was in 1943 when they had visited family in Gadsden, Etowah Co, AL, along with WINNIE LEE and DEAN OLIVER. This was at the same time that Harvey's stepmother, Elizabeth James Smith, passed away. Step-mother, Elizabeth and wife, Cora, were sisters. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated! Isaiah fathered 16 children by 2 wives and I have had a hard time putting them all together. TK Smith Gadsden, AL

    3. Hi Bill, I have access to the detail for all three of those census but the only index I have access to is the 1920. If you can give me a page reference for the 1900 and 1910 I can look it up in the detail. I checked the 1920 and found 5 CHASTAINs in Hall Co in 1920. Jeptha 66, Loyd 43, Marion 35, Winford 27, and John 42 but no Bryant. If you are interested in any of these 5 let me know and I will send the details. 1. [GAHALL] Cowan & Stovall & Russell-early 1800's (and a mystery!)
    2. Hi all, And I'd like info on Hall County in early 1800's. Can anyone tell me what's available? Was Hall a "burned county"? Looking for census, wills, land, probate, guardianship records, etc. Specifically looking for anything on Elijah Cowan (1775-ca1812) who married Prudence Stovall (daughter of Benjamin Stovall). They had at least 3 sons but Elijah died while they were minors and the boys went to Stovall guardians. I have found a bit of info on 2 sons, Edward and William Cowan (of Hall Co), but Stephen (b.1800) seems to disappear after his marriage to a Sarah Russell in 1831. Mystery: My ancestor is another Elijah Cowan born, like Stephen, in 1800. He, again like Stephen, marries a Sarah ca 1831. This Sarah's last name is unknown and so are the origins of both my Elijah and my Sarah. Could my Elijah be Stephen? Could he have taken his father's name after the elder Elijah's death? A wild theory, I know, but until I can find Stephen after 1831 or my Elijah before 1831, I need to pursue the possibility! Any help appreciated! Happy New Year all, Cyndi in Baltimore

    1. [GAHALL] James Harvey Smith and Cora B. James
    2. TK Smith
    3. Seeking info of the family of James Harvey Smith and Cora B. James. Harvey, son of Isaiah Smith and Elizabeth, was born in Jul 1876 in probably Milton Co, GA. In 1900, he is shown still living at home with his father and step-mother, Elizabeth A. James, in Etowah Co, AL. In 1904, he married Cora B. James in Milton Co, GA. (His wife, Cora, and step mother, Elizabeth, were sisters) Cora was born abt 1886 in GA. In 1910, he and Cora lived in Milton Co, GA. In 1917 when his father passed away, he was listed as living in Norcross, GA. In 1920, he and Cora were listed on the 1920 census of Milton Co. They had at least 2 children: James Paul Smith, b. abt 1905 Milton Co and Annie Mae Smith b. 27 Feb 1911 Milton Co married Bob Hughes d. in Gainesville, GA 14 Dec 1996 (according to SSDI). In 1943 when his stepmother died, Harvey is listed as living in Lula, GA. I have no information beyond 1943. Is there a Hall Co cemetary book? How would I obtain the obituary of Annie Mae from 1996, at the very least? Anyone got a connection to these folks? Thanks, Tricia Smith Etowah Co, AL
