http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/habersham/cemetery.html Denise just posted a very helpful listing with very interesting details about those buried in what is described as "Old Clarkesville Cemetery". J.C. Southerland has been so gracious in taking photos of Clarkesville Memorial Cemetery on US 441. I need your help in figuring out if there are TWO Cemeteries or if the Memorial Cemetery is the same thing as the "Old Clarkesville". If someone who lives in the area, or who is familiar with the area, could help explain this, I'd sure appreciate it! I don't think I have all of Mr. Southerland's photos on-line, but am working on it!
There are two cemeteries. Old Clarkesville Cemetery is downtown and most of the graves date back to the 1800s many of the graves date back to the 1800s. Clarkesville Memorial Cemetery is about a mile south and most of the graves are in the early 1900s up to the present. I live in Habersham County and have visited both cemeteries numerous times. I will be happy to try to answer any specific questions.
