Can anyone give me any suggestions on sources for information on migration into the Habersham County geographic area after the Revolutionary War? The specific family I am researching involves Jane/Jean/Eugenia Traill West, the widow of Benjamin West. Benjamin West was killed by Tories in the Ninety-Six area in South Carolina during the last months of the Revolutionary War. Their son James West was married to Mary Chadwick. James West (the son) was also a Revolutionary War soldier. After coming to Georgia, James and Mary's son James West was married to Eunice Bowen. Both James Wests were active in the Baptist Church (I do not know a specific congregation at this time, but have been told that there are copies of minutes from their congregation in the DAR Library in the General Records Collection for Georgia on the open shelf.) Collaterally, James West married to Mary Chadwick, was the brother of Benjamin West. This Benjamin West was married to Nancy______ 12 June 1788 in Abbeville District, South Carolina. He died in Hall County, GA 25 November 1842. Nancy West's application for a pension as a widow of a Revolutionary soldier was located by a private researcher in the 1930s in Habersham County records.
