All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Penney Murray bppkba@alltel.net June 4, 2004, 3:35 pm Toccoa Record Jessie Barrett Wilkinson, 62, of New Hope Road, Toccoa, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at her home. Born August 1, 1941 in Hall County, she was a daughter of the late Jess Willard Barrett and the late Lou Ellen Brown Barrett. She was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church and retired from Coats American. Mrs. Wilkinson fought courageously and finally won her seven year battle against cancer. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 26 at Tates Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Jerrell Beatty, Warren T. Wilkinson, and Paul Wright officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Survivors included her husband, Gary Wilkinson of the home; a son Paul Wilkinson of Toccoa; two daughters, Penney Murray and her husband Billy, of Martin, Pam Edmonds of Eastanollee; two sisters Martha Cheek and Gail Barrett, both of Toccoa; five brothers, Douglas Barrett and Leonard Barrett, both of Martin, Donald Barrett of Eastanollee, Ronald Barrett of Lewisburg Tenn., and Perry Barrett of Atmore Ala.; four grandchildren, Wyatt Jones Wilkinson, Tyler Edmonds, Katie Murray and Angela Murray. Pallbearers were Cecil Armour, Anthony Barrett, Andy Barrett, Scott Payne, Jonathan Crump and Jeff Adams. Whitlock Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: This was the poem read at her funeral, written by Penney Murray My Mama's Poem The Lord my Savior has come to take her home, and there she will not be alone. For Mama will finally get to walk those beautiful streets of gold, and never grow another day old. No more pills, just thrills that she is living in that mansion up above. Looking down, saying "Please don't frown, for I am so happy, pain free, and waiting on the blessed day when she will get to see all of her beautiful family again." Blackburn married Adeline Jones 11/2/1851 in Habersham County, GA. Lillian Henderson listed in her compilation of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, one M.S. Blackburn on the muster roll of Company E, 16th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Habersham County. Milton is the only Blackburn in my list (which is small....approximately 83 names) which might have be this particular soldier. The marriage date would be appropriate for the parents of the M.S. Blackburn that you are researching; however, I have no other information.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3c.2ADE/958.1 Message Board Post: I found your messages on line while helping an elderly friend hunt for her family. Her grandfather was WILEY Lee Russell, who was born in GA. There are NO Wiley Russells listed in 1880 or 1890 censuses in GA who are white. My census search led me to WYLY W. Russell b. 1825 and his wife Rachel, and 4 children, living in Decatur County, GA, including an 7/8-year-old son the census taker listed as W. W. (most likely that is her grandfather, but we need more information). My friend's name is Doris Russell Stubblefield, and she knows nothing about her grandfather, not even his brothers and sisters' names, but I have found out a little bit. He was a WWI veteran, was born in GA on 10 July 1876, once lived in Jefferson County, MS, and died in Covington County before SS numbers existed (and was not in the 1920 census). Doris says her grandmother, his wife, was Carrie King who had a brother Dr. King who practiced at Forest, MS. WYLY Russell the elder (or another Wyly Russell,! but so far I haven't found but the one) showed up in 1891 in Davidson County, TN and voted in District 12 there (is this your line?). I haven't yet checked census records to get any additional info, or checked Davidson County library. Doris also says that her grandfather said his mother was a Cherokee Indian (Rachel? listed above), and that he said they married, she thinks, in the northern part of GA. I just started this hunt this morning, and so am going at it very naively, hoping to find a connection without having to do major digging (sometimes that works!). If you have ever run into these names in any connection with your family research, please let me know. Thanks, Mary Collins Landin Utica, Hinds County, MS
