This Power of Attorney was recorded on June 4, 1883 . According to my notes, I do not find any rercord that he ever moved his church membership from Providence Baptist Church to Bethlehem Baptist or to Hazel Creek. Members of my immediate family were charter members of both Bethlehem Baptist (founded first) and Providence Baptist Church (formed second). In the 1868 Minutes of Providence Baptist Church, both Louis and Minerva Anne Free were listed as members. Jessee Lewis Waldroup was the last of Minerva's children and he was born on Feb.25, 1972 in Habersham County, Batesville District. In the 1870 Census Minerv's grandfather, John L. Harris was living in the household with Louis Lee and Minerva Waldroup. Although the date that Minerva Anne and her brothers and sisters sold their interest in their father's (Simeon Free") esate (remainder of Irena Sutton Free's Dower (Reversionary Interest), this date of 1882 relates only to the date the Power of Attorney was given by Minerva Anne Free transferring her (Minerva's) interest to her children, it does not have to coincide with the year of her death although Minerva absolutely HAD TO BE ALIVE when that power of attorney was given. I guess what will be necessary is that I will either have to go Surry County, N.C. or find someone up there who will make a copy of the original docxument Minerva had to sign to give the authority. I have tried many times to find the old homeplaces when I could get someone to take me and except for remembering the Stonepile Rd area as where a Great grandmother lived, I can't find it, I do know where my dad was born and the house on the Soque river that was built by my granddaddy just below where the water goes over the road.. it now belongs to the Lovells who have sold to Ted Turner. the orchards were below the house. daddy was orphaned when he was just turning to a teen. not having grandparents to visit has left a void of infomation ,as to where we had kin.. the family reunions were as close to gathering remembrances of our family as we were able to get , we lived in Atlanta and it wasn't easy to get to the area often due to transportation..in the forties and fifties..after I married we moved with the Navy for quite a few years and only got back t! o Ga. in the late sixties.so lots of lost time.. my dad passed in the early seventies and not many of his siblings were left .I started gathering as much as I could just from what they remembered and could tell me. I live in N.E. Ga. close to S.C. about an hour and a half from Clarksville.

This house was on about 85 acres in the Hazel Creek Community (Mt. Airy Ga.) and on that property now is the Central Heights Baptist Church and Central Heights Christian School. Minerva Free, her sister Selena Free, her brothers Lewis LaFayette Free (a Baptist Minister) and John Bailey Free were the children of Simeon Free and Judy Harris Free and lived in Batesville very near John LaPrade's estate. Martin Free and one of Martin's brothers, Simeon Free (my great grandfather) lived close by their PARENTS LEWIS AND KEZZIAH FREE. This Lewis Free was born in S.C. about 1775 and in the year 1850 was living in Batesville with his son, Martin Free who was born in 1816 and was listed in the 1850 census as an "inmate" and 75 years of age. Somewhere in my notes I have a family history on the Waldroup family but it's too long to send by e-mail. See if you have it and if you do not, let me know how I can photocopy it and mail it to you and I will send it that way. Liz
My ggg-grandfather Hiram KELLY moved to Habersham County between 1820 & 1830. I am searching to determine if he is related to Thomas KELLY or Thomas or William O Kelly listed in the 1830 census. Hiram's father-in-law Patrick S McGEE and brother-in-law James P. McGEE were also in Habersham County in 1830. I have not locate the McGees after 1830. Hiram KELLY had purchased land in Habersham County, but was residing in Cherokee County in 1840, and Forsyth County in 1850. Any leads for locating these individuals will be helpful. Thank You. Minerva Free was my 2xgreat-grandmother. I have never been able to find anything definitive as to what happened to her. I know that Louis Lee m. 2nd Elizabeth Bramlett but there have been some rumors that Minerva and Louis were divorced. Louis is buried next to Elizabeth Bramlett but no grave (as far as I know) has been located for Minerva nor any record of her death. One other fact - Minerva's grandfather, John Lord Harris, is shown on the 1870 or 1880 census as living in the household of Louis and Minerva. John Harris was the father of Judy Harris who married Simeon Free - parents of Minerva. I am descended through Louis and Minerva's daughter, Sarah Waldrop, who married John Perry Peace of Anderson, South Carolina. My grandmother, Louise Peace, d/o Sarah and John married Virgil Lamar Ivester. Fran

Linda, I don't know if this will help you much but I have some census records for these folks and a bit of other information. Here is what I have: Lewis Lee Waldroup - s/o Joseph Waldroup and Tabitha McIntyre b. 26 July 1833 Habersham Co. - d. 1 Oct 1890 Habersham Co md 27 Aug 1854 in Habersham to Minerva Anne Free - b. abt 1836 Ga children: Sarah - abt 1857 - md John Peace Judah Dorcas - abt 1861 - md Sanford Lee Erwin Julia E. - abt 1863 George L. - abt 1865 1860 - Census - Habersham Co. Lewis Waldroup - 26 - farmer - Ga Minerva - 2? - house keeper - Ga Sarah - 3 - Ga Lewis L. Free - 20 - day laborer - Ga John B. - 12 - Ga 1870 - Habersham Co. Waldrope, Lewis L. - 37 - farmer - Ga Minerva - 34 - keeping house - Ga Sarah S. - 12 - Ga Judah D. - 9 - Ga Geo L. - 5 - Ga Joseph 12 - farm hand - Ga Harris, John L. - 77 - Ga. The Joseph, age 12 is possibly the son of Perrin Waldroup, Lewis' brother. Hope this helps a bit. There are a couple of folks descended from this line. I think they are on this list but not for sure.
