    1. Re: John W. Parker (1837-1924) and Mary E. ?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3c.2ADE/1565.1 Message Board Post: According to a translation of Habersham marriage records done by Herbert Kimsey, John Parker married Mary Sheredan on Jan. 22, 1860. I would assume this is John W. Parker and his first wife. However, I've not been able to find out anything else about Mary. There are only three records found for any of the various spelling variations of "Sheredan" in the 1850 Habersham Census and none could be Mary. There is an "M. Shirdin" living in neighboring Hall County in 1850; a female of the correct age. Her father's name appears to be "Abner", but the writting is pretty bad. He is listed as a 30 year-old farmer, born in South Carolina. His wife's place of birth is "unknown". All of the children (4 girls, of which "M." is the oldest), are listed as having been born in Georgia. Does anyone know anything more about these folks? Is this John Parker the same John W. Parker whom later married Palona Goode? Any additional information would be very helpful.

    3. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/habersham/military.html I'm trying to get some rosters on-line for the Indian Wars period...and I'm sure Habersham County must have had several. Paula Grant helped us with some information on Capt Grant. There was a Lindsay's Militia which was formed with companies from Hall and Franklin County (we have those rosters). I just found out that a Capt William E. Derrick also had a company in Lindsay's Militia, but I don't know what county he was from. If anyone can help out on this, please share this with other lists. We're trying to track down 3 "matrons" (a totally new term for us!) who served with their husbands in Lindsay's Militia. >These are Rebecca Greer, Mary Smith and Polly >Wright. Virginia Crilley

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3c.2ADE/1565 Message Board Post: John W. Parker (son of Squire Parker and Malissa Morris) is listed in the 1860 Census for Banks County with wife Mary (17). I've been unable to find a marriage record for them in Banks County and suspect they were married in Habersham County, possibly just before Banks County was cut off from it. In the 1870 census, she is listed as "Mary E.". I believe she died between then and 1874, as John married Palona Goode in November of that year. Searching the 1850 Census for Habersham County, I have come across one possible candidate for Mary. A female of the right age, M. E. Bonds is listed living with her parents John and Rebecca Bonds next to John Parker and his family. I find no further record of her. I'm hoping someone can provide evidence to either confirm or eliminate her as being John W. Parker's first wife.

    3. These photos are such a treasure! Thanks, Annette for sharing these will all of us. (And Vickie you have created a beautiful page to display them! Don't forget to start with Vickie's main pge http://www.rootsweb.com/~gawhite/ She has a real talent for layout!) Wouldn't it be nice to have a biography on this Meaders family for the White County pages? Maybe there is already one out there, but I think White County should be very proud of this family and the work they did. Does anyone have some of their pottery ? 1. Re: [GAHABERS] Mossy Creek Methodist Church
    2. Wally McCollum
    3. I believe that David McCallum is actually David McCollum, born August 6, 1777 in Rowan County, North Carolina and died October 20, 1865 in Dade County, Georgia. His wife was Sarah Graham. He removed from the Pendlton District of South Carolina to Habersham County, Georgia between 1820 and 1825. He was enumerated there in 1830 as a head of household with his son, Joab Lafayette McCollum, born in 1807, and Joab's wife, Sarah Charity Wood, living nearby. His first cousin, William, and William's wife Susannah Miller, were in the county by 1823. So was his cousin John McCollum and John's wife, Hannah Cantrell. His uncle, Daniel McCollum,. was also in the county by February 1826 according to his Revolutionary War pension application. David and Joab and their families moved on to Dade County in the mid-1830s. David was listed as a wheel wright in 1850. Dade County history indicates that Joab's home was used for religious gatherings in the years before the Cherokee were removed. David and Sarah had four daughters and six sons between their marriage in 1797 and 1820, but only Joab Lafayette has been definitely identified as their son. The current (New) Church was completed prior to 1971 but I am not sure of the year but I have it some where. The reason I know "1971) is that my father's funeral was the first one in the new church and he died in September 1971. The library in Clarkesville is wonderful and has so very many aids there for geneaologists. I am of the belief (but don't know) that Lewis Free and Lewis Lee Waldroup lived nearby John L. Harris ---they were all pioneers and dedicated workers in the Providence Baptist Church. Of course the Providence Church is much smaller than Bethlehem but still has a lot of history. Did you tell me that your folks lived near where the creek runs across the road (at hwy 197 near Batesville)? That is also pretty near LaPrade's and that's the area where most of the original settlers won Indian Land ::Lotteries---I know that Lewis Free and Elisha Free and the LaPrade's and the Motes alal won some of the Indian Lands. Do you have a copy of the Minutes from Providence? You can pull them up on your computer and print them out but it will require about 20 legal pages. I do have them and if you want to risk putting your mailing address on this screen, I will mail the minutes to you. Liz
