    2. Hi Kathy My ggggrandfather Baylis Brookshire migrated from NC.to Habersham co.Ga. His son Joseph J.Brookshire, brother to Nathaniel Franklin Brookshire (my gggrandfather),and father to Henry Burris Brookshire (my ggrandfather),who married Jesse Prince's daughter,Lou Ella Prince had a son named Jarred Brookshire. I believe Jarred moved from Batesville,Habersham co.Ga.to Demorest,Ga.for economic and educational reasons. There was a college there and a Saddletry factory, where some of these family members worked. My sister and I took an interesting trip,a couple of years ago to Batesville,Habersham co.Ga.I have photos of Joseph J.Brookshire, also his wife,Martha Harris Brookshire and daughter,Nancy's tomestones. Also the headstones of Baylis and wife Lucinda. I was also able to track down some of the descendants of Joseph's three sons, that moved to Demorest,Ga."more cousins".One of them still owned Martha's original spinning wheel. Henry Burris Brookshire(ggrandfather) was born in Habersham co.Ga.His Mother Sarah Elizabeth Martin Brookshire and her four children moved to Anderson SC area where her Martin family was living. Nathaniel Franklin Brookshire(gggrandfather) died in Camp Chase Ohio,as a prisoner in a Union prison camp. Henry Burris Brookshire and wife, Lou Ella Prince Brookshire once lived on land where North Greenville Jr.College is today.I think that is Tigerville,SC.? I will locate my notes, with more info, dates, names ect. Do you think this Durham line is connected to Elizabeth Durham, wife of a later Robert Stewart from Pickens co.SC.? Cousins once again........ later Gay

    1. Jackson/Jay 1860s
    2. I'm searching for a marriage record abt. 1864 for Levi JACKSON & Sophronia JAY in either Habersham or White County. Sophronia stated in a 1904 affadavit that they were "married by Rev. Brooks and lived about 8 miles from Williams Store" but she couldn't remember if it was in Habersham or White County. She was 16 years old and he was abt. 54 years old. He was previously married to Jemima, and they are in the 1860 White County census with 13 children. Levi obtained land in Habersham (later White) in the 1832 lottery and lived there from that time until abt. 1870. I recently visited the White County Courthouse & library but could not find a marriage record for Levi & Sophronia or a death record for Jemima (the affadavit states that she had been dead for some time before Levi's 2nd marriage so her death date would be 1860-64). Any information or connections to JACKSON or JAY appreciated! Ann

    2. James Pearson
    3. Hi: Evan PEARSON is my gg grandfather, (c1795-c1854). He first appears of record to my knowledge in the 1830 Habersham Federal Census. Also in the 1830 Habersham Census is a Moses PEARSON. In the 1840 Habersham Census is a Noah PEARSON. Evan PEARSON was an itinerant Baptist preacher. Any ideas about where I could look for other records of their lives in Habersham County. Do any Baptist Church records in Habersham County go back that far? Are any of these heads of household a part of a family tree being constructed at present or in the past? Thank you. 1. Revolutionary War Veteran's Grave - Daniel McCollum
    2. Wally McCollum
    3. I will be in Habersham County early next week as part of a trip to north Georgia tracing ancestors. I'm trying to locate the grave of Daniel McCollum, who fought in the revolution in Rowan County North Carolina and migrated to Habersham County Georgia from Pendleton District South Carolina in February 1826. He lived with his son in law, John Stovall, when the 1840 census was taken and he was identified as an 86 year old Revolutionary War veteran. His son Daniel H. McCollum and members of his family are buried in the old Blue Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, as is his son William's wife. The censuses of 1830 adn 1840 show Daniel in the Blue Creek District, but he isn't shown in the 1850 census. Can anyone help me locate Daniel Senior's grave? He is believed to have died in 1842. W. McCollum Columbia Maryland

It is a private E-mail list, certain common sense rules will apply. This same form of E-mail list is currently functioning with great success in another county. It is very helpful to understand how the early families in a county interconnected, it helps locate those females that are so hard to locate. It gives insight on what was going on in the county at different time. We have a full searchable archive, files to share your ancestors pictures in, and many other features. You must have ancestors in Towns Co. GA to be eligible to join. We will have three managers to help you will problems! To join please contact me at <[email protected]> request to join the TownsCoGenList, and I will send you an application letter. Best Regards, Wylene Alston

    1. 1880 Habersham Co. Census
    2. Judy V. Mason
    3. According to the 1880 census: Household # 187/188 Herrin, Wiley T. white male 30 years old " , Mary Emeline white female 28 years old {this is Mary Emeline Young} " , JOSEPHINE 9 years old {date of birth calculated as 1971} " , Eppa L. 7 years old " , Eda S. 5 years old " , Enoch 4 years old This female named Josephine is the one buried next to her father Wiley T. Herrin in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. I believe that the date of birth on marker is also questionable as that would make Josephine only 12 years old when she married Joseph. There marriage is recorded in the habersham County Probate records as being Jan. 04, 1891, thus she would have actually married at the age of 20 years. This also places Josephine's birth near the births of her siblings as it should be. Judy

    1. Herrin/Jackson burials
    2. Judy V. Mason
    3. Recently I have posted questions regarding the burial site of one Josephine Herrin, w/o Joseph Jackson. Several questions have arisen out of this query. Today after re-tracking some old notes in my files, I found perhaps the answer for us all. This page copied from a list of those buried in the Habersham Co. cemeteries must be and older version. The list is done by cemetery. I refer to page 86 of this copy. Under PLEASANT GROVE CEMETERY I find; HERRING, Josephine b. June 28, 1859 died June 30, 1899 w/o JOSEPH JACKSON. Now this is the couple that I am looking for!!!!!! It appears that I need to confirm this by a photo or someone revisiting this cemetery for me. but I do believe that the recent info taken from an index card stating that this Josephine married a Joseph Herrin is inproperly recorded!!! And that this older list is correct. I have requested of a Clarkesville resident to perhaps visit Pleasant Grove and snap a photo of this for us, so that we might confirm. I am much relieved to have backtracted and found what I thought to be the correct info. I was beganning to doubt my previous research!!! But believed that family info would more than likely be correct. yahoo! Will follow this up as soon as I hve proof on my hands! Thanks to all of you for your patience in this situation.
