The Gwinnett Co Death Book, unfortunately, had mistakes & several sections of cemeteries got omitted. I do not find any Thornton's dates with burials before 1888. I do find reference to Thornton graves being moved 1957 from Shoal Creek Baptist (Old) [aka: Hammond] near Buford . Those without permission for removal were left to be flooded by Lake Lanier. Don't know how old that cemetery was. Thornton is such an old family name, have you check the Forsyth - Hall & especially Jackson (& Barrow) areas?
