    1. Re: [GAGWINNE-L] WAITERS

    3. The WAITERS family is my most frustrating brick wall! I'm hoping by researching the Gwinnet County WAITERS family, I will find a lead. William Amos WAITERS was born in May 1840, in Georgia. I have not been able to find him in either the 1850 or 1860 census records. The first record found of him is at age 21, when he joined the Confederate Army as a Private in Co H, 1st Regiment Georgia Regulars in Elijay, Gilmer Co, GA. He was not from Gilmer County, and no other Waiters family lived there. He married Mary Ann Whitaker in Gilmer County and settled there after the war until moving to California in the 1890's. I have not been able to trace William Amos Waiters' birth. On all records he stated that he and his parents were born in Georgia. The only Georgia counties I have found Waiters families are Gwinnet and Franklin. I think the families are probably somehow connected to each other and to my William Amos Waiters. The name is not a common one. I'm hoping by tracing the Gwinnet and Franklin families, maybe I'll find William Amos as a child in one family. The only other clue I have is the names of his children. Most carry the names of his wife's family except for the following I can't identify; possibly they were named after someone in his family: Jane Tinsey or Tinsley , Margaret, and Martha. He only had two sons, one named after his wife's father and the other named William A. WAITERS. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Elaine Waiters [email protected]
