Oh... if I only could! <gbg> I have a Wynn line that I believe came into Gwinnett sometime after April 1830 and before 1834. My ancestor George Washington Wynn was born in NC in Apr 1830, and the last of the clan, Clemon Quillian Wynn was born there in 1834. Believe that Nancy Win appearing in the 1840 census is my 3-g-grandmother. And she and the two above mentioned boys appear in 1850. This Wynn line connects with the George Kirk line thru his daughter Nancy Jane. One of her sisters married a Thomas Harris, and one married a Marion Jacobs. Need help on the Kirk line. If anyone knows anything about this line... please help me out. Been bumping a brick wall for a while. <g> Also supposedly a line of Taylors in Gwinnett. Have searched the census line by line for a record of Levy who married a Martha Hay, to no avail. Supposedly Levy's father was named Abraham. Any can help on this one... many will be thankful!! <gbg> Wyndell Taylor > >Listmistress > > > > >==== GAGWINNE Mailing List ==== >Adrianne Hopkins Listowner - [email protected] > > >

    3. WELDING LINKS: YANKEE DOODLE GETS LAST LAUGH by Myra Vanderpool Gormley, CG <[email protected]> Yankee Doodle went to town A-riding on a pony Stuck a feather in his hat And called it macaroni. "Yankee Doodle" is perhaps the most popular song from the American Revolution. While several European nations claim ownership of the tune, the song became famous as a march of the American Patriots during the Revolutionary War. The original words of the song are attributed to Dr. Richard Shuckburgh (whose surname is spelled variously), a surgeon on the staff of the British Army. It is claimed that he wrote the verses in 1755, during the French and Indian War, as a joke about the American colonial militiamen's lack of polish and discipline. "Macaroni" was a reference to a fancy-dressing Italian, a style which was widely imitated in England at the time. Thus, by sticking just a feather in his cap and calling himself a "Macaroni" (a dandy), Yankee Doodle was showing himself to be a country bumpkin, which is, of course, how the English regarded the American colonists. However, the American colonists turned the joke around and wrote their own verses. As Britain's General Lord Charles Cornwallis' army marched to surrender to General George Washington on October 19, 1781, it was the American version of "Yankee Doodle" they heard. Happy Independence Day, and here's to our ancestors who made it possible. * * * * * Editor-at-Fault: Julia M. 3. Oddly enough I didn't find Nathaniel mentioned specifically in any of the Gwinnett Books that I have in my possession except this one. Vol.. 2, History of Gwinnett Co.1818-1960 By Flannigan pg. 32 Hosea Camp's father, Nathaniel CAMP, was in the Battle of King's Mtn. in the month of Sept., 1780, near the North and South Carolina line. He may have fired the fatal shot that killed General Ferguson, the commander of the British army. Nathaniel CAMP picked up from the battle field a conch shell that was used by Ferguson as a horn....... Rev. Hosea CAMP, who lived in the eastern section of Gwinnett Co., he brought this horn with him and gave it to his son, Hosea CAMP, who carefully preserved it as an important historical relic of the Rev. War. Mr.. W.H. Everett, Nathaniel CAMP's granddaughter, who presented it to the DAR where it can now be seen in the museum. That's it! I don't know if this is your Nathaniel but it's a cool story.
