    3. Adrianne, Thanks for these clues to the WAITERS family. Does the book give Amanda's husband's name? Did it give any information about her husband's war service? (Civil War?) Perhaps if I order the pension papers, it will provide more information about this family. How could I obtain a copy of the full references to these Waiters in the Gwinnett county books? I'll be glad to pay someone for copying, postage, etc. Thanks again! 3. Hi Leona, The only clue I have to Tinsley is that William Amos Waiters and his wife, Mary Ann Whitaker, named their first daughter Jane Tinsley or Tinsey Waiters. (It was her middle name, but she seemed to use it most often later in life.) It is one of the few of their children's names I can't connect to Mary Ann's family. Perhaps someone in the Waiters family had that name. If I ever find a Tinsley or Tinsey connected with a Waiters, I think they will also be connected to my very ellusive William Amos Waiters. Thanks for the note. 3. Thanks, Janie! I have started looking slowly look at Waters, Walters, Watrous, etc. families in GA--as varied spelling of Waiters. I'm trying to find a family in 1850 with a 10-year-old son named William Amos, or in 1860 find a 20-year-old Wiliam Amos. So far, I haven't had any luck. Thanks so much for checking Waters Gwinnett Co 1860 for me! I appreciate it. Surely, William Amos Waiters can't stay hidden forever!!! 3. In the book History of Gwinnett Vol. 1, pg 65 John MCDADE was listed as a VA militiaman in the Rev. War who collected pension in Gwinnett County. pg. 160 John MCDADE was a pensioner of 1835 & 1840 There are not listings for the MCDADE families at all. You need to check Hall & Dekalb counties also. Even though the kids lived in Gwinnett in 1850 doesn't mean grandpa didn't wonder over county lines to die. One of my husband's ancestor's went to visit in another county and died so they buried him in that county. Took a while to find grandpa but there he was. Also, call the Gwinnett Historical Society. They have a huge update and many corrections to add to the cemetery book so you might find them. If you live near one of the Federal archives, you can view these pension records for war service. Good luck! Adrianne -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, August 05, 1998 11:19 PM Subject: Gwinnett Co. 3. Elaine, You might look for WATERS instead of WAITERS as sometimes the census taker misunderstood or thought he knew everything. Also the index transcriber of the censuses often misread the writing. I've seen many strange things. BTW I looked at Waters in 1860 Gwinnett census and the only William I saw was 17, father Moses. 1. [GAGWINNE-L] MARTIN Researchers!
    2. Martin Researcher can you please place these Martin's with a Martin Family?? My 2 Great-Grandmother was : Margaret "Elizabeth" (Martin), born about Dec 1822 GA, accordig to census data. She married 24 March 1839 Gwinnett Co. to Benjamin F. Hanie. In 1839, when Elizabeth applied for a widows pension, for Benjamin's service in the Florida-Indian War, their marriage was attested to as being performed at the above time & place by Henry Strickland of Duluth, GA. & by a Benjamin F. Martin, both stating as being present at the wedding. My Hanie family left Gwinnett before 1850 (family found in no census that year) into Forsyth Co. & onto Pickens Co. & after the civil war to Hall Co. where they settled & both died there. Any idea's? Thanks! Annette (Haney) Nichols

    2. Hi Glenda, I don't have much on my Pruetts and i'm in the process of getting a very important death cert that will help a lot. For now, i have Lula Pruett who married Samuel Randolph Givens, Lula was born 14 Aug 1881 in Gwinnett, and died 9 Mar 1949. In the 1920s or 30s, Lula and Sam moved with some of their children to Irwin Co. GA, and eventually Ben Hill Co. GA. Mine stayed in Gwinnett. I hope this helps! Joey Baggett [email protected]

    1. Re: [GAGWINNE-L] WAITERS
    2. Elaine Waiters
    3. The WAITERS family is my most frustrating brick wall! I'm hoping by researching the Gwinnet County WAITERS family, I will find a lead. William Amos WAITERS was born in May 1840, in Georgia. I have not been able to find him in either the 1850 or 1860 census records. The first record found of him is at age 21, when he joined the Confederate Army as a Private in Co H, 1st Regiment Georgia Regulars in Elijay, Gilmer Co, GA. He was not from Gilmer County, and no other Waiters family lived there. He married Mary Ann Whitaker in Gilmer County and settled there after the war until moving to California in the 1890's. I have not been able to trace William Amos Waiters' birth. On all records he stated that he and his parents were born in Georgia. The only Georgia counties I have found Waiters families are Gwinnet and Franklin. I think the families are probably somehow connected to each other and to my William Amos Waiters. The name is not a common one. I'm hoping by tracing the Gwinnet and Franklin families, maybe I'll find William Amos as a child in one family. The only other clue I have is the names of his children. Most carry the names of his wife's family except for the following I can't identify; possibly they were named after someone in his family: Jane Tinsey or Tinsley , Margaret, and Martha. He only had two sons, one named after his wife's father and the other named William A. WAITERS. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Elaine Waiters [email protected]
