    1. Re: [GAGWINNE-L] Marriage Licenses, etc.
    2. Russell Schexnayder
    3. I believe that Gwinnett county marriage records did survive the years 1864-1871. What names are you looking for and I will check Flannigan's book. >I was at the State Archives (GA) yesterday and thought I had hit "pay dirt" >with old Gwinnett County marriage license records...but, alas, there was a gap >in their records. I found licenses prior to 1864 and after 1871. Of course, >the ones I need are between 1864 and 1871. Do they exist? There was a fire in Gwinnett county in 1871 and many records were lost. Also, are there >records of wills from 1847? 1848? I found them from 1854 forward. Looking at a map of the Original Cherokee county, and then the map of the counties as they are today it appears that Gordon was formed by taking parts of Cass/Bartow, Murray, and Floyd. I believe if you look at the GAGenWeb page it will tell you when a county was formed and from what original counties are territory. >Also, was Gordon Co. part of Bartow/Cass? If so, when? >One questions seems to lead to another! >Rose > > >==== GAGWINNE Mailing List ==== >Adrianne Hopkins Listowner - [email protected] > >To Search the Archives for this List: >http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl > >

    1. [GAGWINNE-L] RE: The GRIZZLE Family of Gwinnett & other Counties.
    2. Leigh
    3. To All Gwinnett Researchers: Much of the information on the Family Tree site is incorrect with regards to my surnames. I received a long distance call from a representative of Broderbund. I have tried to work with the person responsible for posting the misinformation online at Family Tree, but they aren't cooperating at this time. The surnames affected are: GRIZZLE {and all varied spellings) KILGORE/KILGRO WOOD/S SPIVEY MOON MOORE BROWN BROWNLEE HALL TANNER HOOPER WOODRING BRAND LUNSFORD SMITH ARCHER DODD On the "AJ" GRIZZLE, descendants of; some of the lines are so tangled that sisters are married to sons & brothers. Others have the Lunsfords listed as Smith unknown. We all know that mistakes happen. There is room for lots of error in Genealogy. Many of the senior members of these families are still living. They are in their 80's & 90's. I have years of research on paper. I am still a novice with this computer, so it will take time to get the records corrected. By way of information, Andrew Jackson Grizzle was married to Martha Jane Lee Jackson. His brother Madison Grizzle married Susannah Jackson. The brothers Grizzle wed the sisters Jackson. The parents of Andrew Jackson Grizzle & Madison Grizzle were John & Sally Taylor Grizzle. Many other children were born to John & Sally. 2. MR J HOOD
    3. Joey I have several ties to Adam Robinson and have a lot on the Robinsons. They were close to the Hood's and several Hood'd married Robinsons. The Wilsons were decendents of George Wilson Bn Talbot Co MD. He was a Rev war soldier. The Bradford Iremember was Marinda. The Mchugh connection is a mistery. Many of the Hood's disapeared between 1880 and 1900. My grandfather was living a home in 1880 with many Hood's. In 1900 they were all gone except for William who was living with a mchugh Family. He was blacksmith and partner with James ( i believe need to dig out my notes). They were living in Buncombe district of Walton Co Ga at the time. I can Download some info for you. Do you have Family tree maker by any Chance?? Jerry

    1. Re: [GAGWINNE-L] My Gwinnett Surnames
    2. To CHFH30A: What are your connections with each of those surnames? First of all, i have tons on the Bradfords, my grandmother was a Bradford. Furthest back i have on the Bradfords is Charles and Nancy Bradford from SC, they had many children. One, Nicholas Bradford, married Elizabeth, and they had Isaac Bradford. Another of Charles and Nancy's sons was named Richard Joshua Bradford and he married Mary F. Kirkland. Richard and Mary had Cynthia Amelia Bradford. Isaac and Cynthia, were first cousins, and they were living in Gwinnett Co. when they married. They had Charles Yarborough Bradford, who married Julia Anne McHugh. Charles and Julia had Luther David Bradford, who married Zillie Harriet Huff. Zillie and Luther had Deline Roana, who is my grandmother. Julia Anne McHugh's parents were James M. McHugh and Nancy J. Hutchins. James's father was Benjamin F. McHugh, and Benjamin's father was Charles McHugh, who came to Gwinnett with his family in the 1820s. I have a lot of information on brothers and sisters of James. I'm a descendant of Adam Robinson, who basically is the forefather for all the Robinsons in Gwinnett Co. I believe i'm desended through William T. Robinson, who married a Bagwell, and they had a son named George G. Robinson, who was a judge in Gwinnett Co. I'm still trying to sort out all the truth in this line cause there are a lot of holes in the research. I recently found out that my Wilson connection might not even be in Gwinnett Co., and more importantly, i don't think i have it at all. Euela, (i've seen her listed as other names as well), i believe lived in Gwinnett or Walton Co., and moved to Alabama, and married a Wilson there. She had some children in Alabama, but then came back to Gwinnett Co. after she left her husband. She still retained the Wilson name instead of her maiden name, and married Alford Iverson Baggett in Gwinnett Co. I'm still trying to sort all this too. So far, i haven't been able to find out her maiden name. What are your connections with these surnames, and i can see if i have them with my information? Maybe this helps you in what you have? Tell me what you have, and thanks for the help! Joey Baggett [email protected]

    2. My great-great-grandmother was Margaret 'Elizabeth' (Martin). She married the 24th day of March 1839 in Gwinnett County to Benjamin Franklin Hanie. I learned her maiden name and their marriage information from Elizabeth's application for a widow's pension in 1893, for Benjamin's service in the Florida-Indian War. Their marriage was attested to as being performed at the above time and place by, Henry Strickland of Duluth, Georgia and by a Benjamin F. Martin, both stating as being present at the wedding. My Hanie family left Gwinnett before 1850. Martin Researchers can you help? Annette (Haney) Nichols Please Visit Annette's Websites: http://members.tripod.com/~AnnetteN/signature.html

    3. Donna, Thanks for the encouragement, I needed to hear that. I can't help you with when the fort was created , but Cherokee county was created in 1831 from the Cherokee Lands and the counties of Habersham and Hall. Cobb County was created in 1832 from Cherokee Co. This may give us the answer to why R.M.C. gave Big Shanty as Cobb Co. I.m sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Maybe someone else will know. I have seen part of a family Bible that listed Collins, Taylors and Jarrell in it and was told it was the Waters Bible. I dont know how they connect. The other names are a family from the same county. Maxine
