    1. [GAGWINNE-L] Re: [Maffett]
    2. Jessie (Maffett) (1889 GA - 1948 SC) married 1907 to James W.W. Nichols. Jessie was the dau. of David Wardlaw Maffett (1855 - 1937) & Melerene F. (Gunter) David Wardlaw Maffett was the son of John Robert Maffett (1824 - 1908 ) & Mary (Beeland) That is all I have in my files. Jesse & her parents buried in Barrow Co. In the 1850 census for Hamilton Maffett I find Mary listed as Mary Ann O. Maffett. I also note where Hamilton married a second time to a Sarah A. Ivey? In past years I do now there are several people researching the Maffett (Moffett) lines. I guess Jessie was from a different set of Maffett's. 1. [GAGWINNE-L] response to Lou Cook
    2. You asked, Anyone researching Pool, Clardy or Roebuck in Gwinnett Co..........? Lou Cook I have the following Pool ancestors from Georgia: Benjamin Pool + Matilda ______ from SC Dr. Marcus Lafayette Pool b. 05/15/1825 in SC, d. 06/09/1895 in GA, married to Lucy Caroline Mangrum. Marcus Velpeau Pool b. 09/02/1857 in GA, d. 07/09/1925 in ARK. married to Margaret Ann McMillan in GA. I am not sure if they came from Gwinnett, but I do know they went to, and helped establish, a small town in Arkansas, along with other ancestors of mine that were in Gwinnett County. If you see any connections, please let me know, as I could use the information as well. Sincerely, Sheila Merrill

    1. Re: [GAGWINNE-L] Marriage Licenses, etc.
    2. My Mary O. Maffett was the daughter of Hamilton Maffett and Mary Robinson. Hamilton's parents were Robert Maffett and Margaret Garmany, originally from Newberry SC. Robert and Margaret had many children, as did Hamilton and Mary. I believe there are Maffett descendants in the Gwinnett and Atlanta areas, also in Athens. The Maffett home was on Peachtree in Gwinnett. There is a photo of it at the Gwinnett Hist. Society. I have seen the marriage record of a Mary O. in the late 1890's. She may be a descendant of Hamilton & Margaret or one of Hamilton's siblings.

    1. Re: [GAGWINNE-L] Marriage Licenses, etc.
    2. Maffett I visited the Old Courthouse many a time, even helt in my hand a marriage certificate from 1838. It was just in a bundle with others. Have only been to the New Courhouse one time several years ago at that time the old records were not available, I believe they were being micro filmed. Any way I have found the applications of many of my family members from the very early to later. You know even way back there the couple got their marriage license (except for that 1838 one). As for Maffett. A 2nd cousin of my father-in-law connects with the Maffett family (her mother was a Maffett) & although she is not into family research she loves to talk about family & has collected a little bit of info. Who was your Mary's father? There was 2 Mary's even one as Mary O. but marrying 1893 & 1895 to Collins & Patterson. 3. Hello All Gwinnett Researchers: The Gwinnett Courthouse has only burned one time. 1871. Ditto Annette. Did anyone get my message about my GRIZZLE line being posted at Family Tree Most of the info is incorrect. Any of you related to the GRIZZLE clan, please do not use "AJ Grizzle, descendants of;" listed with Broderbund. I have contacted them and the person who posted the info. Brothers married to sisters, LUNSFORD's listed as Smith unknown, My uncle Marion Grizzle is listed a Grizzle unknown. He married a relative, Dolly Louise Grizzle. I am working to get this corrected. If necessary, I will post all the GRIZZLE info on a web site, listing Family Tree site as incorrect. Family Surnames that were tampered with (by the 2 known to me)and changed. Original documents were placed in the hands of these two women and physically changed by them to "make things fit." GRIZZLE and all various spellings. KILGORE/KILGRO MOORE MOON WOOD/S SPIVEY GREEN ROGERS The above are the Georgia names. Next is a list of North Carolina Surname list that the 2 women changed. TANNER HOOPER WOODRING STUART HALL. My GRIZZLE folks are in their 80's & 90's. All of them have razor sharp minds. I have researcher dating back to 1850. Information from the National Achieves & Larry Gaian is helping to untangle the Georgia lines. Regards, Rachal Leigh Grizzle USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project "Walker of Stones."

    2. Annette-Born and reared in Gwinnett. My daughter and her family live on the border of Gwinnett and Dekalb on Norris Lake. The county lines go right through her yard and house! Well, anyway, regarding marriage records and courthouse fires... I cannot find a record of the marrige of David Windsor McDade and Mary Orrigan Maffett although they were both born in Lawrenceville (or at least Gwinnett). The Gwinnett historical society has no record of their marriage in their book. Do you think the new courthouse/county building would have records from 1868? Rose

    2. Hi Annette, I was under the impression that it burned during the civil war also. Can't remember where I read or heard it. I am also from Georgia. Live in Conyers. In the early 70's lived in Dacula - my two oldest children graduated from Dacula High School. My Rutledge's are from Gwinnett County. Chloe

    3. Rose, Sorry I don't find the marriage between Windsor McDade & Mary Orrigan Maffett. I can't find the marriage between my great grandparents, Philo W Blount and Sarah Ann Wages, in Gwinnett county either. They probably m ca 1862. I find all of their siblings but not them. When talking to a Gwinnett cousin this past week she said that some Gwinnett county marriage licenses were recently found in the attic of an old house. Seems someone who worked at the courthouse took them home where they remained for years. These marriages will probably be printed in the Gwinnett Historical Society's Quarterly as this is a prize find. Janie

    1. Re: [GAGWINNE-L] Marriage Licenses, etc.
    2. Russell Thanks for your reply. I am trying to find a marriage record for David Windsor McDade and Mary Orrigan Maffett. Both are from Lawrenceville so I assume that is where they married. They moved to Atlanta, also lived in Cartersville for a while. I believe they married around 1868 or so since their first child was born in March of 1869. I am not sure if I have ever seen Flannigan's book. I appreciate your help...thank you so much. Rose Ferguson
