He first married Nancy ___, and they had several children in Greene County. After Nancy's death, he married Mary Knight, and they had several children. William and Mary moved from Greene County to Wedowee, Alabama. William's children from the first marriage settled in Greene County. According to oral history, William was a cousin of Pres. Andrew Jackson. Since some of Andrew Jackson's uncles settled in Greene County, this is possible.
