I to am a descendant of the Harris family of Greene County GA. Jane Harris daughter of Matthew Harris and Hannah Ross married William Gillespie Orr in Greene Co. in 1820. This family was in GA, TN and back in GA before moving to TX by 1850. These are some of the sources I have used in researching my Harris family. There were members of two DIFFERENT Harris families in Greene Co. Ga. (I belong to both) The descendants of Charles Harries b a 1600 Bogrie, Scotland d 5 Dec 1637 had Edward Garrus Harris (Herries) b a 1620 Dumphries, Ayrshire, Scotland died 1673 Done, Ireland Samuel & Martha Laird in Greene, came from the above His son Thomas who had Samuel Baker, Eli, Th.-others And back to James - dtr Ann married David Calwell- whose family wound up in Mecklenburg-(As the OTHER bunch of Harris) and on to Greene Co. Ga. dtr. Isabelle "Ibbe" married William Harris son of Samuel & Martha Laird, and Isabelle's brother William also wound up in Greene- ______ The other bunch- go back (on my records they stop there-anyhow) to William of England who came over with William the Conquorer -to son Wm. of Prittlewell b a 1440--on down through Arthur & Johanna Percy, Wm, Arthur & Dorothy Walgrave, Wm. & Alice Smythe, John, to Thomas b 1616 Wales died 1672 Charles City, Va. to Thomas & Son Robert both died Isle of Wight Co Va. whose children and Grandchildren wound up in Greene. Charles- of Warren Co. NC son of Robert and Ann Fungham had children in Greene His brother Matthew died there- but it appears his children migrated to Hancock, Fayette and other nearby counties.
