I am taking up this Whatley research after a period of no research and so may be woefully behind the current thinking: I have a Whatley grandmother without proven parents, slightly older generation, but born probably from Greene, Oglethorpe, Wilkes or a neighboring county: Elizabeth Ann Whatley b ca 1775-80, married 1796 possibly Greene or Jackson Co., GA, Edward/Edmund Carlisle (died 1828 Morgan Co., GA but moved from NC to Greene to Jackson, Baldwin, and then Morgan). Although one report suggests that she may have been born a Boren and was a Whatley widow, Elizabeth Ann Whatley Carlisle used the Whatley name as a middle name for most of her children. Is it possible that these were Whatley children who adopted Ed. Carlisle's name? She did not remarry after Ed. Carlisle, but died 1854/5 in Chambers Co., AL, buried Mount Hickory Primitive Baptist Church. Children: William Whatley Carlisle 1798-1883 (Could this be her father's name? Elizabeth Strickland Carlisle ca 1799-1856 (Could this be her mother's name?) James Whatley Carlisle ca 1802-1886 Robert "Robin" Whatley Carlisle 1806-1890 my line Edmund Whatley Carlisle ca 1808 Green Whatley Carlisle 1810-1882 Michael Andrew Jackson Carlisle 1816-1898 Christine Carlisle ca 1817 Malinda Carlisle ca 1817 Someone clearly proved that Elizabeth Ann Whatley Carlisle was NOT the daughter of Ornan Whatley, who died in Oglethorpe 1798, but I have lost that reasoning and would appreciate it if someone would explain it to me. I had at one point several conflicting wives and sets of children for Ornan; I assume the data was old and confused two or three people of the same name. Regrettably full of holes here and needing definitive documentation.
