This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/1759 Message Board Post: I am trying to find the ancestor's of Reuben Bishop, b. ca. 1792 in Georgia. He married Nancy Wooten in Alabama 1818 and returned to Dekalb Cty, GA before 1830. I have had several leads on his parentage, but nothing concrete. I have searched many records in Georgia and have decided to post what I know about Bishop's that may probably be related to Reuben, in the hopes that someone recognizes them. I would like the gedcoms, with sources for anyone who is listed here and in following posts. I am going by name and am not saying that each fact is for the same person, only that they all have the same name. This is my Reuben Bishop: 1. Reuben Bishop. Joshua is there from 1809 to 1812. Enoch appears 1810, 1812 & 1817. As explained to me, the tax list is a Poll tax list and you had to be 21 yrs. old. With the help of Marshall Williams at Morgan Cty Archives, I have determined the following about Reuben in Morgan Cty. He owned a large piece of property and several slaves. My Reuben would have only been just 21 or so, more than likely if this is MY Reuben, he would have inherited this property, since he would have been pretty young to get it all on his own. This particular property was in the Mann Dist. of Morgan Cty (LL#13) and was originally purchased by James Bishop on Nov. 17, 1810. No record of the transfer to Reuben has been found. Joshua Bishop owns an abutting piece of property, as do the Anderson's. (please see my James Bishop listing). While living in Hancock Cty, on 13 Jun 1816, Reuben sold this and another piece of property in Morgan Cty. 21 Jun 1813 Morgan Cty. The Governor commissioned John G. Towers and his subalterns as officers for the Vol. Co. of Riflemen, attached to the 61st battalion. Subalterns were LT Reuben Bishop & ENS Benjamin Thomas.
