    3. The remains of Scull Shoals are presently a "ghost town" in the northern part of the Oconee National Forest, and you can find out about it by looking at information about the National Forest. However, the name Scull Shoals goes back before there was a town. It was used as a reference point in a letter from Col. (or perhaps general by that time) Elijah Clarke to the governor of Georgia in February of 1788, reporting the murder by Creek Indians of my 4-great grandfather Captain John Autry.
