Hi, I have CALDWELLS tied to my bunch in Jefferson County, GA and Augustus is a name that floats around my DANIEL bunch, there. Nancy Ann CALDWELL (1822-AFT 1864) married a James S. SPEIR (ABt 1820-1864), clerk and MG in JC. Nancy was the d/o Simon CALDWELL and Nancy SPIVEY of Jefferson County and he was a son of Spencer CALDWELL (ABt 1741-ABT 1802) and Martha YOUNG of Worchester County, MD, later Greene County, NC. Spencer was the son of Robert CALDWELL of Somerset County, MD and Winifred WATTS of Baltimore County, MD who as a daughter of John WATTS (d. ABT 1740) of Westmorland County, VA, later, Somerset County, MD. There seems to be some Southside, VA families that moved north into MD and then came back to NC in a later time frame, and GA, even later. This may be one of these. BTW, my GGF, Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. (1809-1865) of Bethany, Jefferson County, GA cut and witnessed the 1864 will of James S. SPIER and most indications are they were the best of friends. Robert's mother was a Penelope LANE (1773-1846), d/o Capt. Isham LANE (ABt 1730-1801) of Greene County, NC and I think his LANES my have gone this same route -- Southside to Somerset and then back to eastern NC - Bertie and Edgecombe and then Greene and Wayne County, NC. I think Capt. Isham LANE was married to a Lucretia "Lucy" GRAY, d/o John GRAY and Penelope BRYAN(T) of Rosefield, Windsor Co., NC. John R.
