Backus is mispelled Bachus. Either correct this or type in http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/haralson/wills/backus.txt and you should pull up the will. I wish I did, but I don't know why son Augustus (as well as daughter Emily Barnwell and son James) was disinherited. Augustus and Emily were children of his first marriage. James Jr. was a child by his 2nd marriage to Lucinda Knight. The will coupled with census records from 1840 thru 1870 offer substantial evidence that this family existed. The only missing piece is the identity of James' 1st wife, the mother of Augustus, Emily, Nancy A. (Jacobs), and an unknown son and daughter. It's interesting that James was the only son of John Baccus who adopted the surname spelling Backus. His other known siblings; William, John H., Joseph, Gillery, and Green Berry either adopted or kept the Baccus spelling.Census records also suggest there were two other siblings, a girl and a boy, but their names are unknown.
