Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ic.2ADI/331.544.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Tricia. Thanks very much for your reply. I look forward to more information on Isaac D. King. It’s true that my conclusions about the parentage of James R. King are based upon circumstantial evidence. But I can find no other James R. King (other than the son of Ezekiel) that fits. The following are the basis for my conclusions: 1. In 1850 we find Ezekiel King listed in the Greene Co. census with a son James R. King, age 7. This is the only child in the area that I’ve found with the name of James R. King. Also I have found no child named James King, or J.R. King, or Russell King in the area either. 2. In 1860 Ezekiel and his family are in Harris Co., GA and in the census is a son Richard, age 16 who apparently is the son listed as James R., age 7, in 1850. Again, no James R. King (or James, or J.R., or Russell) shows up in Greene Co. or neighboring counties in 1860. 3. Ezekiel King is still in Harris Co. in the 1870 census with most of his children still living at home. However, there was no James R. (or Richard) in his household or to be found so far in Harris Co. But, a James R. King, age 31, with wife Susan, now shows up in Greene Co. in 1870. 4. Ezekiel King and his wife are in Harris Co. in 1880 and some of their children can be found living there. However, I have not found James R. King (or Richard King) in Harris Co. in 1880. You mentioned the age discrepancy which I have noticed. It was not unusual to find age differences from one census year to the next. In 1850 and 1860 it would be his parent(s) who gave the census taker his age. By 1870 he was an adult with his own household so he would be the one giving his age (or perhaps his wife). This often caused age discrepancies in the records. Another smaller difference is the birthdate of Susan (Wright) King. The 1900 census gives her date of birth as Sept. 1847 and her age as 52. In the McGiboney, Cone, Mapp, King Bible Records, her date of birth is Sept. 16, 1848. Her tombstone also shows her born Sept. 16, 1848. Then we have her grandmother, Lucretia Mapp, listed in the 1850 census as age 52; in 1860 as age 17 (obviously a careless mistake by the census taker); in 1870 as age 65; and in 1880 as age 79. (The bible record shows her birth to be Aug. 2, 1798.) This shows that census records cannot always be relied upon to be consistent with ages. Unfortunately the only mention of James R. King in the bible record is his marriage to Susan. Also, his tombstone has not been found yet. Do you have any records, other than census records, that show his age? Although I have no absolute proof that James R. King who married Susan Wright was son of Ezekiel, I think the circumstantial evidence is pretty good. However, if it turns out differently, I will be the first to admit my that conclusions are incorrect. Sincerely, Rhoda
