Dear List Members, Can anyone identify these TOOLE family members I found listed as being buried in Oconee County, Georgia, and how they might fit into the family of my 2-great uncle, ED/EDGAR/EDWARD/E. L./THOMAS E. TOOLE? He was b. c. 1861-2 Barnwell District, South Carolina, d. between 1920-1930 probably somewhere in the general area of Clarke, Oglethorpe, and Oconee County, Georgia. Maybe even Greene County??? He married twice in Oconee County, Georgia. Ed L. Toole to Louisa Chancey 13 Dec 1880 (Any children by this marriage???) E. L. Toole to Samantha Brooks 24 Dec 1887 I have my Toole line back to Barnwell District, South Carolina, and back to Edward Toole who was in Cowan County, Bettie Pact. (present day Bettie County) North Carolina as a grown man by c. 1735. I am trying to bring the lineage of this Uncle ED Toole forward to the present times which is sometimes harder than going backwards. His parents were R. I. Manning Tooled and Mary D. Green on the 1880 Census of Oconee County, Georgia. My parents were cousins on the Toole side; I am descended from two of their other children (P. C. & Hattie). Pierce Columbus Toole m. Amanda C. Crow Oconee County 1875 Moved to Augusta, Georgia Two sisters married the same day at Carey in 1875 Recorded in Greene County. Agnes m. Frank Barnette and Hattie A. (Harriet Ann) m. Joseph Vinson Durham Agness Toole and Frank Barnette died young leaving only one surviving child. Hattie Toole and Joseph Vinson Durham reared a large family southeast of Woodville & Temperance Bell Crossroads, Greene County, Georgia, area now called "Durhamtown." Mary D.Green Toole, the mother of thes children, d. 1889 buried in Temperance Bell/Lindsey/Bowles Cemetery. Albert moved back to Barnwell County, South Carolina, after 1880 m. Frances Heath She was a distant Toole cousin. Both buried in Old Springs Methodist Church Cemetery near New Ellenton, South Carolina. I posted a query to the lists a few days ago about Ed Toole's family and received a couple of bits of information back from the list members that was very helpful, particularly the page citation for part of his family on the 1930 census of Clarke County, Georgia. So by some "dumb luck and guess work" I have finally found his family in 1900 Clarke County, 1910 Oconee County, and 1920 Oglethorpe County, and his widow is back living with a married daughter, Effie, in Clarke County in 1930. Now with the census information and bits and pieces of information I have collected over time, the family is beginning to fit together. Ed Toole's family from his second marriage appears as follows: Elizabeth N(?)/Lizzie Toole m. Ola Anglin 1908 Oconee County Mattie Toole m. Lomas (indexed Travis in 1910 Oconee) Clark 1908 Clarke County (one or both may have died by 1920??? A Clark niece is living with Albert and a Clark grandson is living with Ed and Samantha Toole in 1920 Oglethorpe County) Effie Toole m. Newton Pierce 1930 census Clarke County Albert Toole m. Lillie [_?_] 1920 census Oglethorpe County. John H/K Toole Maybe the 2 year old son b. May 1898 in 1900, 12 in 1910, 16 in 1920. On the various census some of the handwriting was terrible and particularly in 1900 there were black splotches and discolorations over the given names of the last two children. Also with a lot of census some of the information appears to be scrambled and the ages might be off several years, etc. I have no other family information with which to compare it. Only family information that I have had all of these years is that there was a brother Edgar, that he had descendants in the Athens, Georgia, area and that one of them was murdered by a man robbing a store robbery, maybe about 1911, which does not fit very well. Is this son, John, the same as John H. Toole buried in the Watkinsville Cemetery below??? Did he have a sister, Mattie, and also have a wife named Mattie M? Who is the John Thomas Toole who served in WWI in an Alabama unit??? BOOK; CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS OF OCONEE COUNTY, GEORGIA.
