Spears, probably from Edgecombe County, N.C. and whose decendants populated many Georgia communities. In 1798, Moses Speer is sheriff of the county. He advertises his house in Greensborough in the Augusta Chronicle. Moses Speer was the fourth sheriff after 1786, and 5th Coroner.
