    3. By chance, is this Elisha Sparks Hunter possibly descended from an earlier Elisha Hunter (abt. 1735-1778), who migrated to the area of Wilmington North Carolina from Germany? This earlier Elisha Hunter was married, according the the information I have, to Margaret Stute (abt. 1740-1791). My part of this Hunter family migrated to Georgia. http://www.dkco.com/gen/gendex.html Regards, _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ Daryl Coleman Garland, Texas Homepage: http://www.dkco.com/ Family History Page: http://www.dkco.com/gen/gendex.html "I am not strong enough to fall away while God is resolved to hold me" - Unknown _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ -----Original Message----- From: Investorsfg@mindspring.com [mailto:Investorsfg@mindspring.com] Sent: Sunday, October 17, 2004 2:26 PM To: GAGREENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Elisha Sparks HUNTER (b. 1802) - UPDATE This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 3. Hunters, especially Elisha Sparks Hunter (also E. Sparks Hunter, ESH, E. S. Hunter) were very active in the Bethesda Baptist Church (formerly Whatley's Mill)in the early to mid 1800's. One Samuel Hunter sold the land to the church in 1815 for the present church finished in 1818. Samuel Hunter married Charity Whatley, dau. of Ornan Whatley, in 1800 in Greene County, Georgia. See Ornan Whatley's will recorded in Oglethorpe County. I do not have a Hunter line to my knowledge, but I did published the church minutes from 1817 to 1865. The earlier minutes have been lost. Elisha Sparks Hunter apparently died between the February 15, 1852 conference which were signed "E S Hunter a clerk" and the July 17, 1852, church conference minutes which are signed "H H Watts Clerk." Between the March 20, 1852, conference church minutes and the July 17, 1852 conference minutes both of which are signed by "H H Watts Clerk" is this notation... "Bro. E S Hunter, A. Greene & Daniel Bethune Dead On account of the pestlence prevailing in our country we have had no preaching for three months." I still have copies of the church minutes left. If anyone happens to be interested in purchasing a copy please contact me privately. This church is located in eastern Greene County east of Union Point and north of Hwy 44 to Washington. poeple attended church here from surrounding counties (Greene, Oglethorpe, Wilkes, Taliaferro, etc. My lines in Greene and adjoining counties are listed in the front of the church minute book: Durham, Reynolds, Malone, Bowles/Booles, Lindsey, Freeman, Pollard, and Toole. 3. Vivian, I have 23 Mar 1852 as the DOD of Elisha Sparks HUNTER, Jr. of Greensboro and he lived in Greensboro. His daughter, Mary Lou HUNTER (1848-1917) married Charles W. RICHTER, Jr. on 12 Sep 1866 in Greensboro, Green County, GA. Professor Charles RICHTER was the oldest son of Charles W. RICHTER, Sr. (1807-1884) and Anne Elizabeth POTTER (1808-1863) of Madison. Mary Lou had sisters, Laura, Julia and Emma and a brother named, James Thomas HUNTER and I do not know who they married. I do not show a Samuel HUNTER attached to this family but there could well have been one. I also show Elisha's brothers as Rev. Alston M. HUNTER (married Martha STILLWELL) and William Alston HUNTER (married Sophronia Massey HEARD) and sisters, Miriam HUNTER who married Thomas Washington RANDLE, Rebecca HUNTER who married Charles SHACKELFORD, Nancy HUNTER who married Joseph FITZPATRICK and Mary HUNTER who married Lewis CALLAWAY. Elisha Sparks HUNTER, Sr. was the son of Jesse HUNTER and Ann Hinton ALSTON of Wilkes County, GA. Elisha, Sr. married a Rebecca LNU. The WATLEYS of Warren County, NC are mentioned in deeds of this family back in Warren County, NC before they moved to Wilkes County, GA I also have WATLEYS of Granville tied to this overall family - Edmund WHATLEY (1752-1801) who married Phyllis MARCUS and they moved to Edgefield, Edgefield County, SC. I would almost bet the Shurley WHATLEY, Wilson WHATLEY mentioned in deeds 1770 era deeds with Jesse HUNTER in Warren County, NC are related to Edmund WHATLEY and his son, Col. Abner WHATLEY of Edgefield County, SC whose grand daughter, Junie Whatley WRIGHT (1866-1900) married Col. William Richter MUSTIN, Esq. (1857-1901) of Madison, Charles W. RICHTER Jr. and Mary Lou HUNTER's nephew. "Willie," as WRM was called, was a graduate of Mercer, State Attorney for Morgan County and GA State Representative from Morgan County, GA. Willie and Junie are buried in the New Section of the Madison City Cemetery right by my grandparents (John and Alice Daniel RICHTER) and grand uncles (Mat and AP RICHTER) and right behind the ATKINSON family plot, as I remember.
