KNOWLES /KNOLES /NOLES FAMILY ASSOCIATION 2002 Reunion The Knowles/Knoles/Noles Family Association has been in existence for many years. As time goes on, we have discovered that there are several other surnames intimately interwoven with the various Knowles surnames. These include Hart, Montgomery, Greer, Prettyman, Ellis, Thomas, Evans, Nichols, Slaughter and Marvel. The 2002 Reunion will be held in Athens, Georgia. Athens is in north central Georgia near Greene, Hancock and Oglethorpe Counties, where a number of Knowles families settled in the later part of the 1700’s and the early 1800’s. The primary focus of this year’s Reunion is the ancestors and descendants of the Knowles families from Georgia. However, the Association is open to the descendants of all Knowles (all spellings) progenitors, many of whom were in the Colonies before the Revolutionary War. The Association invites all of you who are interested in pursuing the history of these families, and who want to enjoy a great weekend, to join us for our 2002 Reunion. Membership in the Association is not required. Details concerning the dates, facilities, events and making reservations for the Reunion are below: LOCATION The 2002 Knowles/Knoles/Noles Family Association Reunion has been scheduled as follows: Dates: June 7 & 8, 2002 Location: Athens, Georgia Headquarters Hotel: Holiday Inn of Athens 197 East Broad Street (Broad & Hull) Athens, Georgia 30603 706-549-4433 MAKING RESERVATIONS All of the Reunion meetings and functions will be in the Holiday Inn in downtown Athens, Georgia. The Holiday Inn Express, which is a short walk of a few blocks west of and convenient to the Holiday Inn, offers slightly lower room rates. The address for the Holiday Inn Express is 513 West Broad Street. Arrangements have been made with both the Holiday Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Athens to provide a block of rooms for Association members and guests at reduced rates for the June 5th through June 9th period. You may call the Athens Holiday Inn direct (706-549-4433), the Athens Holiday Inn Express direct (706-546-8122) or you may call the national Holiday Inn reservation number (1-800-HOLIDAY) to make room reservations for the Reunion. Rooms for the Reunion will be held until three weeks prior to the Reunion, so be sure to call early to get the best rates. The rooms being held for the Reunion include regular rooms configured with double, queen or king size beds as well as some suites. If you make your reservations, early you should have no trouble getting preferences such as non smoking rooms. Rates for the various rooms will range from $76/day for a standard room to $129/day for a suite. The Holiday Inn of Athens is a full service Hotel/Motel. The facility is quite large with a tower of Hotel rooms as well as several motel wings on the grounds surrounding the main building. This Holiday Inn property in Athens is directly adjacent to the University of Georgia (UGA) campus and within a short two block walk of the rustic old downtown area of Athens (which includes many shops and restaurants). All types of rooms at both the Holiday Inn and the Holiday Inn Express have in-room coffee maker, hairdryer and iron and ironing board. Full continental breakfast is also provided. So, these are full service facilities in a good location at reasonable, but not inexpensive rates.
