Yes, I would love to believe the story, but that is not possible until I have something to document it -- even some circumstantial evidence would be helpful. However, there is not any of that either.
I have a Prudence Hargrave who married a Jesse Barber 17 Dec 1808 in Oglethorpe Co., GA. Prudence Barber was named as a granddaughter in John Nicholson's Nov. 1817 will in Oglethorpe, mother unknown. John Nicholson had lived in Mecklenburg Co., NC, from winter 1766/67 until ca. 1796. He had a lot in Charlotte close to the courthouse from which he worked a as general carpenter (brother Joseph Nicholson was a joiner and brother George a cabinet maker in Charlotte). Prudence was born ca 1788 or a bit later. It is probable that she was the only child of a Nicholson mother who married a Hargrave/grove/greave somewhere in the greater Mecklenburg/Rowan/Cabarrus, NC, area or the York Co., SC, area, since the Nicholsons had farm land in the Steele Creek Presbyterian Church area of Mecklenburg along Little Sugar and Sugar Creeks. Jesse and Prudence Barber moved ca 1820 to Walton Co., GA. If anyone is researching Hargrove variant names in the area, especially if they moved on in the post Revolutionary years to the Wilkes/Oglethorpe/Greene/ Co., GA, area, I would appreciate any help. Too many people have it documented in their history of family line, in the Greene family, as well as myself in my family history which my aunt compiled before 1950 from her history records. But, I am and have been sick for the last week, so I am not really in any position to prove this at this point, which is irrevelant. Keep digging! Others did.

Could this Isaac you mention be the Isaac Jackson b.1789-1789 md. to Mary?. I find him in Greene Co., Ga. in the 1830's and he died in Upson co., Ga.in the 1842, He lists "other children who have left me" and these are named, Sarah Ann B. 1815, Henry Green B. 1820, Stephen Edward b. 1823, John Green B. 1826, Furney F. b. 1834 and Mary Jane. Lemuel Gatlin is the administrator of his estate. There are a lot of Isaac's to sift through. Thank you, Mary

I have been looking for some kind of connection for about 20 years. If anyone has documentation of how they are related, I would be delighted to know. Meanwhile, if there is nothing to connect them, their relationship is only a rumor, wishful thinking, or fiction.
I have a Jackson bride without parents: George Nicholson married 2nd Nancy Jackson (possibly Mary Ann), 22 Jul 1823 In the Wilkes/Oglethorpe/Greene Co. area. George Nicholson lived in the SW corner of Oglethorpe. First child May 1824 was named Richard J. (possibly Jackson?); others were Mary Ann, George Robert, Elizabeth Hazel, Sarah America, Martha Jane, Mark Marion. George Nicholson died 1855, still living on his father John's homestead in Oglethorpe's Falling Creek district, In 1860 his widow was listed as Mary Nicholson, living in HH of son Richard, age 60; in 1850 her age was given as 54. In 1830 Oglethorpe Co., GA, census there is a widow, Mary Jackson, male 20-30, 2 females 30-40, 1 female 60-70. Next to her is widow Nancy Nicholds [sic]-unknown to me- with 5 children under 20 and 1 female 40-50, 1 female 60-70. Close by in the same (Hatchett's) district is a William M. Jackson and not far away in Hardiman's district is an Owing F. Jackson. Coincidentally, there are two George Nicholsons on this census living in the same neighbor with similar families. I'm unclear as to the second George Nicholson. So I'm looking for a Jackson girl, probably Mary Ann, born ca 1796-1800, father or brother possibly a Richard Jackson. If you have any information for any of these names, please share. All tips welcome. I've also posted to the Oglethorpe list. Anne Nicholson Crocker Durham, NC

He died on 11 Dec 1784 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island. He married Martha RUSSELL on 13 Mar 1735 in Rhode Island. He was the son of Jabez Greene (1673) and the brother of Nathaniel Greene (1707). Katie says Nathaniel Greene and William Greene (b. 1764) were 2nd cousins. I am so delighted to find someone else who has that information. I also have that statement from a now-deceased cousin of mine. According to the "New England Historical and Genealogical Register, vol. 4 (published 1850)" pg. 75, James Greene (b. 1626/36) was the great-grandfather of Gen. Nathaniel Greene). Therefore, if William Greene (b. 1764) was the 2nd cousin of Nathaniel, then William was also great-grandson of James. If anyone can figure out which child of James is the grandfather of William (b. 1764), please let me know. Thanks, Phyllis

My great-great-great grandfather, (speaking of my grandfather now) William Greene was born in North Carlonina in 1764, and died in Greene Co. Ga in 1819. He was a SECOND cousin of General Nathanial Greene of the American Revolution. They both beind decended of the GREENE family, members of which came to England from France prior to 1353, at which time Sir Henry de Greene was Lord Chief Justice of England. Other ancestors down the family line were Robert Greene of Dillingham, Dorcetshire, 1545; Richard GREENE of Bouridge Hill; John Greene of Salisbury and JAMES GREENE of Warwick brn 1636, who was the great-great-great-grandfather of Gen. Nathanial Greene and of William Greene, father of the WILLIAM GREENE of this sketch. William Greene was named for his father, whose full name was George William Greene. His mothers name was Nancy, but her maiden name I do not know. I hope this helps. Katie
