    1. Re: [Greene] WHATLEY ...
    2. JOYANNE CROCKER
    3. I am taking up this Whatley research after a period of no research and so may be woefully behind the current thinking: I have a Whatley grandmother without proven parents, slightly older generation, but born probably from Greene, Oglethorpe, Wilkes or a neighboring county: Elizabeth Ann Whatley b ca 1775-80, married 1796 possibly Greene or Jackson Co., GA, Edward/Edmund Carlisle (died 1828 Morgan Co., GA but moved from NC to Greene to Jackson, Baldwin, and then Morgan). Although one report suggests that she may have been born a Boren and was a Whatley widow, Elizabeth Ann Whatley Carlisle used the Whatley name as a middle name for most of her children. Is it possible that these were Whatley children who adopted Ed. Carlisle's name? She did not remarry after Ed. Carlisle, but died 1854/5 in Chambers Co., AL, buried Mount Hickory Primitive Baptist Church. Children: William Whatley Carlisle 1798-1883 (Could this be her father's name? Elizabeth Strickland Carlisle ca 1799-1856 (Could this be her mother's name?) James Whatley Carlisle ca 1802-1886 Robert "Robin" Whatley Carlisle 1806-1890 my line Edmund Whatley Carlisle ca 1808 Green Whatley Carlisle 1810-1882 Michael Andrew Jackson Carlisle 1816-1898 Christine Carlisle ca 1817 Malinda Carlisle ca 1817 Someone clearly proved that Elizabeth Ann Whatley Carlisle was NOT the daughter of Ornan Whatley, who died in Oglethorpe 1798, but I have lost that reasoning and would appreciate it if someone would explain it to me. I had at one point several conflicting wives and sets of children for Ornan; I assume the data was old and confused two or three people of the same name. Regrettably full of holes here and needing definitive documentation. He was one of the appraisers for Benjamin Holland's estate. He is not listed on the 1840 census. I think he is the father of My McClendon/McLendon line. I believe Thomas McClendon's children was Elizabeth, Joel W. and John A. McClendon and possibily others. Elizabeth McLendon married Robert Etheridge December 1838 in the ajoining county of Stewart. Joel W. and John A. McLendon was lising with Elizabeth and Robert Etheridage on the 1840 Stewart County Census. Robert Etheridge's parents were Arron Etheridge and Nancy Anderson. Nancy had a brother named Henry Anderson. (See the Stewart County, Ga Census). Is it possible that Nancy was the older sister to Sarah Anderson? The Thomas McLendon born in 1793 could not be the same Thomas McLendon on the 1800 Green Couny Tax Digests. They were taxed when they reached the age of 21 years old.

    3. Thanks for the information on David Lynch. It would be nice if I could definitely connect my William to this family. Do you have any idea when this Lynch family came to Georgia? I only have the name "David Lynch" for the 1820 Greene County census living in Woodham's District. This is what I have for the 1830 Greene County census on the Litty Lynch family- 1 male 15-20, 1 male 20-30, 1 female under 5, 1 female 10-15, 2 females 15-20, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 50-60. Thanks again for the information. 3. Ms. Gerry Hill, Nice to hear from you. I have seen and have been reading the different postings on the Lynch families you spoke of. I am unsure at this time of any connections between these families and my William. The William Lynch I am researching was born abt. 1809 in Georgia. If he was born in Greene County or connected to any of the early Lynch families I suspect it might be through David Lynch as seen on the 1820 Greene County census. On the 1830 Greene County census David is not listed but there is a Litty (David's wife/widow?) listed with 1 male 20-30 that would fit my William. I have not been able as of yet to find any other information on this David or Litty Lynch. Also, there is a James Linch/Lynch that shows up on the 1820 & 1830 Greene County census. I have not been able to find any other information on him either and wonder if you might know of anything on this James or David? 1. POLLARD IN EARLY GEORGIA COUNTIES

    3. Cross posted to Greene, Taliaferro, Oglethorpe, Wilkes County, Georgia lists. TO: Pollard list members researching in Georgia and Virginia. Can any of the Pollards listed in the two previous messages about Pollards in Georgia be traced back to early Greene, Taliaferro, Oglethorpe, or Wilkes County, Georgia??? To William Pollard m. Jane Thompson Virginia??? My lineage comes from James Edmonds m. Sarah Pollard in Wilkes County, Georgia, in 1849. They are buried in the cemetery at Rayle, Wilkes County, Georgia, that has gone by several differnent names including the Silvey Cemetery. He died in late 1900. James Edmonds' (sometimes spelled with a "U" and other ways0 oldest sister married Dolphford (spelled various ways) Silvey. After pieceing together bits and pieces of information over these several Georgia counties, I think her parents were Seaborn Pollard, Sr. and Sarah M. _?_ who were members of Bethesda Baptist Church in eastern Greene County, Georgia. I have also identified some brothers and sister for Sarah Pollard Edmonds. I think that Seaborn Pollard, Sr. died in Taliaferro County, Georgia, sometimes bwetween 1840-50. His widow and some of the family later moved to the Greensboror area of Greene County and one, it appears, slipped over in to Oglethorpe County. Seaborn Pollard, Sr. is supposed to have been a son of this William Pollard Rev. Sol. from Virgninia. My own research only goes back to Seaborn Pollard, Sr. m. Sarah M. _?_. The next connection I have picked up from various researchers on the internet. Is anybody else on the list related to this line??? 3. Did you by any chance run across any McWhorters in the areas you researched? I am looking for information on my great-grandfather, Frederick McWhorter, who lived in that area of GA. 3. Sorry, I did not find the marriage you are seeking in either the published records of Greene or Oglethrope County, Georgia. I am researching families in Greene County that lived in the 137th, 138th and 140th Georgia Militia Districts. This area was from Woodville to Bethesda Baptist Church and around to Union Point in the eastern part of the county. A few slipped over to the Penfield area. Mainly Durhams and their branches. No Lynches/Linches.
