Hello List Members, Thank you to all of those people who answered my query on POSS on the Wilkes and Taliaferro County lists. Miriam Poss Durahm is still living the last I heard in her early 90's in the Durhamtown Communiy of Greene County, Georgia. She is my aunt by marriage. I am trying to put together a little something on her family tree for her. People who replied to my postings say that Lola/Lori was Lora Lee Patterson m. c. 1908 in Wilkes County. Now I need the parents of Henry T. Poss and how many times he was married in an effort to fill in the gap between the 1880 census and the 1900 census. Aunt Miriam was a little "fuzzy" on the details when I saw her last summer. I will be trying to follow up on some of the links various people sent to me. I have the same basic information as you. His son, Eugene (Eugine) R Livingston was my grandfather. I can send you info on his desendants if needed. I have found a reference to Benjamin Palmer Livingston in the Bowles Family Genealogy on Ancestry.com that could be the same person. Some of the facts match but his parents are listed as John Livingston, b abt 1760 and Jane Brown, b 1788 in Georgia. John's father is listed as William Livingston, b abt 1735 and married to Mary (unk). Do you see any connection here or is this a different Benjamin or maybe someone is mistaken? I would appreciate any thoughts you might care to share with me on this. You can reach me at my email address of bheardjr@swbell.net. Thanks, Bryan Heard

Hi, I think that a laptop might be allowed in the reading room. Remember, most documents are 200-225 years old. They are very fragile. If you cannot go in person, the staff can research for you but they do charge a fee. Mary
Can't bring a camera ?...it is so much kinder and the fee for copy does NOT cover the cost. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Graylwolfe@aol.com> To: <GAGREENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 10, 2005 11:44 PM Subject: Re: [Greene] Fw: RECORDS - 1780 TO 1820 > Hi, You probably should check the GA Archives at Morrow, GA. Hi, You probably should check the GA Archives at Morrow, GA. The address is: 5800 Jonesboro Road, Morrow GA. The phone is: 678-364-3700. The web is: www.GEORGIAARCHIVES.ORG. If you go there in person, you may view the original documents in a special reading room where the staff will let you know what conditions will apply. First, you will need to fill out a sheet with the person's name that you are requesting. This land is called bounty land. It will take from a few minutes to an hour to locate the documents. The staff will come and get you when they have found what you need. Then, you will go into the reading room. You cannot take anything with you. They will furnish you with paper and pencil to do your research. You will be brought a large box that will have the surname on the box of the person that you are seeking. Then you look at folders until you find the person you are seeking. The staff can copy the documents for you. You will need to fill out a form to have it copied. There will be a charge for copying. These are the documents that you might find: the original request for the bounty land; the affidavit from the soldier's commanding officer; the surveyor report; if the person received any land from GA previously; the document signed by the land council; other land which might have been obtained in other GA counties. This is very tedious because the documents are often difficult to read. It is also very rewarding when you find what you need. Good luck Mary

Is there a printed history of Bethany Presbyterian Church? Is there a cemetery attached, and if so, is there a list of tombstones? Brothers Carlisle Pollock Beman and his half-brother Henry D. Beman both served as ministers at Bethany. Carlisle is buried at Mt. Zion, Sparta, GA (Hancock Co.). Henry died in Greene Co. in 1837. Would like to know if he is buried in Greene Co. Henry married Frances Caroline Myrick in Feb 1823. Were there children from this marriage? All help appreciated. Addice

I find James on the 1850 census in IND Co AR near John Robert & his family, James and 3 females - Mary - age 26, Sitha Matilda age 15 and Elizabeth age 18. Its not clear if Mary is his spouse or child. His first wife, Elizabeth died before 1844, I assume in Alabama. i have not found any other children anywhere. John Robert and his wife, Mary HAMMETT daughter of another James Hammett, had a daughter Savannah.
